Description:

The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving growth at Abel Recon by building strong customer relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and developing a consistent pipeline of profitable work. This role works closely with operations to pursue opportunities that align with the company’s capabilities and goals.

The Business Development Manager will strengthen Abel Recon’s presence in existing markets while identifying opportunities to expand into new customers, services, and geographic areas.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Development & Sales

  • Develop and execute a business development strategy that supports Abel Recon’s growth goals.
  • Identify and pursue new customers, markets, and project opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with municipalities, utilities, engineers, contractors, construction managers, and other key decision-makers.
  • Strengthen existing customer relationships to generate repeat and negotiated work.
  • Promote Abel Recon’s storm drainage and sanitary sewer structure rehabilitation services.
  • Identify opportunities early in the planning, budgeting, design, and preconstruction stages.

Pipeline & Market Management

  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and customer database within the company CRM.
  • Track opportunities from initial lead through bid, award, loss, or postponement.
  • Monitor market activity, infrastructure investments, municipal capital plans, and industry trends to identify future opportunities.
  • Provide regular updates on pipeline activity, potential awards, and future workload.

Collaboration

  • Partner with operations to pursue opportunities that align with Abel Recon’s capabilities, resources, geography, and financial goals.
  • Participate in bid/no-bid decisions, pre-bid meetings, site visits, presentations, and customer meetings.
  • Provide customer, project, and competitive insights to support estimating and pursuit strategies.
  • Help ensure a smooth transition of awarded projects from business development to project management and operations.

Customer Relationships

  • Serve as a professional and visible representative of Abel Recon in the marketplace.
  • Build long-term customer relationships through responsiveness, technical credibility, and consistent follow-through.
  • Maintain customer contact throughout and after projects to understand satisfaction, future needs, and additional opportunities.
  • Develop strategies to grow relationships and increase work with key accounts.

Strategic Growth & Industry Presence

  • Partner with company leadership to evaluate new markets, services, technologies, partnerships, and geographic opportunities.
  • Provide market intelligence to support strategic planning and responsible, profitable growth.
  • Represent Abel Recon at industry associations, conferences, trade shows, customer events, and other networking opportunities.
  • Stay informed on emerging rehabilitation technologies, industry trends, and market conditions.
  • Promote Abel Recon’s reputation as a knowledgeable, responsive, safe, and reliable rehabilitation contractor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

  • 5+ years of experience in construction, underground infrastructure, utilities, municipal work, engineering, or business development preferred.
  • Experience in sewer, stormwater, trenchless rehabilitation, underground utilities, or related infrastructure markets strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and develop new business.
  • Experience working with municipalities, utilities, engineering firms, contractors, or public agencies preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, construction management, engineering, marketing, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
  • General understanding of estimating, project costs, margins, schedules, and construction operations.
  • Experience with CRM or similar sales management systems preferred.
