Job description

Industrial Hygiene Associate / Technical Writer

Technical Environmental Services, Inc. is seeking an Industrial Hygiene Associate / Technical Writer to support our clients throughout Houston, Southeast Texas, and the Gulf Coast.

This position is designed for someone who is passionate about industrial hygiene, enjoys working in the field, and can turn field observations, sampling data, and laboratory results into clear, technically accurate reports. The anticipated workload is approximately 50% field work and 50% technical writing and project documentation, although the balance may vary based on project demands.

What You’ll Do

The Industrial Hygiene Associate / Technical Writer will participate in projects from field execution through final reporting.

Field responsibilities may include:

  • Occupational exposure assessments and air sampling
  • Noise dosimetry and sound-level surveys
  • Asbestos and lead-related inspections and monitoring
  • Mold and indoor air quality investigations
  • Legionella and water-quality sampling
  • Ventilation observations and direct-reading instrument surveys
  • General industrial hygiene and EHS field support
  • Client coordination, field documentation, and photographic records

Technical writing responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing industrial hygiene reports, technical memoranda, and client summaries
  • Reviewing field notes, sampling records, laboratory reports, and photographs
  • Organizing and presenting analytical data in a clear and defensible manner
  • Comparing results with applicable occupational exposure limits, standards, and guidance
  • Developing tables, figures, findings, conclusions, and recommendations
  • Performing quality-control reviews for accuracy, consistency, and completeness
  • Working with project managers and senior technical staff to finalize client deliverables
  • Maintaining project files and supporting timely report completion

The person in this role will be expected to understand the work performed, recognize what the data means, identify missing information, and help communicate the results accurately to the client.

A degree in industrial hygiene, occupational safety, environmental science, chemistry, biology, public health, engineering, technical communication, or a related field is REQUIRED.

Travel and Field Expectations

This position is based in the Houston area and will primarily support clients in Houston, Southeast Texas, and the surrounding industrial market. Travel may also be required throughout Texas, Louisiana, and the broader Gulf Coast region.

Candidates must be comfortable with:

  • Occasional overnight and multi-day travel
  • Early-morning project starts
  • Working inside active industrial facilities
  • Walking significant distances and climbing stairs
  • Wearing required personal protective equipment
  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
