Opportunity Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Technical Writer Manager to manage the Defense & Aerospace Technical Writing team in our North Reading office. This high-performing team produces all customer-facing technical documentation for our systems, subsystems, and instruments. You will play a critical role in tracking resource allocation to balance writer’s workloads, establish priorities against deadlines, maintain consistent style guidelines across projects, and coordinate as well as work as part of the team on continuous improvement and troubleshooting issues as they arise. You will work with Engineering to release the Division’s cybersecurity documentation as well as drive a cross-functional team to keep our customer-facing spare parts documentation up to date. In addition, this position includes providing editorial reviews of other documentation as needed and being an engaged participant in our cross-functional leadership team meetings.

This Technical Writing team creates documentation in both CHM and PDF formats. They are currently exploring the possibilities of AI for internal use as well as for our customer-facing documentation while understanding the limitations and requirements of Military-based customers. You will play a key role in moving these efforts forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain complete project status tracking.
  • Lead the Technical Writers with continuous improvement efforts, to include internal procedures in addition to customer-facing documentation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Project Managers to ensure documentation requirements are clear, workloads are balanced, and schedules can be achieved.
  • Review documentation Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
  • Perform editorial reviews for proposals, RFIs, and RFPs as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Marketing, and QA

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management or equivalent experience required.
  • 5 years of direct people management experience in a hybrid setting.
  • Extensive experience with MadCap Flare, CHM and PDF outputs.
  • Experience with source control such as TFS, and Git or GitHub.
  • Highly detail-oriented with the ability to follow through on complex issues with multiple technical facets.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with Project Managers, Functional Managers, Marketing, and QA to ensure project requirements and deadlines are clear and attainable.
  • Ability to work well alone under the direction of the Senior Systems Engineering Manager, and collaboratively with the Technical Writers.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with MadCap Flare, Markdown, Affinity Designer, and a PDM tool such as Teamcenter.
  • Exposure to Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and Military-based programs.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this role is $116,100 - $180,700. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.

Incentive Plan: This job is eligible for discretionary bonus(es) based on financial performance.
