Job description

In coordination with project engineer or analyst, develops documentation in accordance with appropriate standards, data item descriptions (DIDs), DoD directives, military standards and regulations.


  • Compiles information for inclusion in documents from interviews with appropriate technical personnel, notes and draft reports, meeting attendance or minutes of meetings, existing documentation, and observance of demonstration, experiments, and equipment operations
  • Develop, update, and maintain Army Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) to include Operator, Field/Depot Maintenance, and RPSTL content
  • Functional working knowledge of MIL-STD-40051 (IADS/XML)
  • Generate IETM changes/updates by analyzing engineering data (drawings, schematics)
  • Develop and maintain Maintenance Work Order (MWOs) and Depot Work Maintenance Requirements (DWMRs)
  • Facilitate Pubs and MWO validation events at contractor or government facilities
  • Participate in Government run verification events
  • Independently researches technical issues and develops documentation
  • Arranges, outlines and writes documents in accordance with good English principles, commercial standards, military or DoD regulations as appropriate
  • Determines level of detail, appropriate standards and formats required, and writes documents to satisfy these requirements
  • Applies good security practices for handling all classified documents utilized or generated to ensure that classified information is handled properly during documentation development and completed documents are marked appropriately
  • Organizes and oversees work of lower-level technical writers
  • Civilian or military avionics experience a plus

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

 Experience:

  • Five to seven years of experience in technical writing required

 Any combination of education/experience may be substituted for job requirements at the recommendation of the hiring manager and approval of the COO or higher.
