Job description
* Software Development-Develops software tools using primarily Python, C++, Gammavision, R, and SQL on Windows and Linux operating systems to improve the operation, maintenance, and data products produced by the collection and analysis software. Qualifications This is a GG-13 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-13 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-13 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job.
This is an interdisciplinary position that may be filled as a Nuclear Engineer/ Physical Scientist/Chemist, GG-0840/1310/1320-13.In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions for the GG-0840, Professional Engineering Series or GG-1310, Physics Series, or GG-1320, Chemistry Series INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATION REQUIREMENT: GG-0840-13, Nuclear Engineer A. A degree in Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS. OR B.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: GG-1320-13, Chemistry A. Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position.
Examples of creditable experience include a mastery of physics, chemical, and nuclear sciences at a detailed level and a professional knowledge of meteorology is required. A professional knowledge of nuclear technology that includes both solid and gaseous nuclear waste handling technologies. Mastery of nuclear field analysis equipment, specifically alpha, beta, gamma, and beta-gamma coincidence techniques required to oversee/perform radioactive counting and spectroscopy.
Mastery of the technical concepts behind collection and nuclear measurements is required to ensure the equipment meets the technical mission requirements. Knowledge of meteorology, nuclear transport, and sampling methods sufficient to explain mission requirements to operational staff personnel working at worldwide deployed locations. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: * Extensive knowledge of physics, chemical, and nuclear sciences and a professional knowledge of meteorological transport for the detection, identification, and analysis of airborne nuclear materials. * Extensive knowledge of the operation of nuclear radiation measurement equipment, especially alpha, beta, gamma and beta-gamma coincidence counting equipment as well as nuclear effluent transport, detection, collection, and analysis. * Substantial knowledge of nuclear laboratory analysis, evaluation techniques, and radiation safety.
