Job description

As a global leader in radiation safety, detection and measurement, Mirion Technologies is advancing radiation safety through innovative technologies and solutions.
The Engineering Technical Buyer will support the RMS operation by managing the procurement of technically complex materials, components, fabricated parts, and services required for customer orders, engineering projects, production, and repairs. This position will work closely with Engineering, Operations, Production, Quality, Project Management, and suppliers to ensure materials are technically correct, purchased on time, and aligned with project requirements.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical or manufacturing background combined with purchasing experience. This individual must be able to interpret drawings, bills of material, specifications, and engineering requirements while also managing supplier quotations, purchase orders, delivery schedules, cost, and supplier performance.
Essential Duties
  • Review purchase requisitions, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, and project requirements before issuing purchase orders.
  • Purchase technical components, machined parts, fabricated assemblies, electrical components, raw materials, and outside services.
  • Work directly with Engineering to clarify technical requirements, approved materials, tolerances, revisions, and supplier capabilities.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations based on technical compliance, price, quality, lead time, and delivery risk.
  • Create, release, and maintain purchase orders in SAP.
  • Confirm supplier acknowledgements and ensure pricing, quantities, revisions, delivery dates, and terms are accurate.
  • Track open purchase orders and proactively address late deliveries, shortages, supplier constraints, and project risks.
  • Communicate material status and potential delays to Operations, Engineering, Project Management, Production, and other stakeholders.
  • Identify alternate suppliers and sourcing options for technically complex or long-lead materials.
  • Support supplier qualifications and evaluate supplier technical capabilities in coordination with Quality and Engineering.
  • Assist with resolving nonconforming material, drawing discrepancies, incorrect shipments, invoice issues, and supplier corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier documentation, quotations, acknowledgements, and supporting technical information.
  • Support cost-reduction, lead-time improvement, supplier consolidation, and risk-reduction initiatives.
  • Participate in production, project, backlog, and material-status meetings as required.
  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies, quality requirements, contractual obligations, and applicable regulatory requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering technology, Supply Chain, Business, Manufacturing, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Three or more years of experience in technical purchasing, manufacturing procurement, engineering support, sourcing, or a related technical environment.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, bills of material, material specifications, part revisions, and technical documentation.
  • Experience purchasing manufactured, machined, fabricated, electrical, or engineered components.
  • Strong supplier communication, negotiation, organization, and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, customer deadlines, and long-lead materials in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify technical or commercial discrepancies before purchase orders are released.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience working within an ERP or MRP system.

Additional Requirements
  • Experience with SAP purchasing, material planning, purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and supplier records.
  • Experience supporting engineered-to-order, configure-to-order, repair, or project-based manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with mechanical components, electrical components, machined parts, fabrication processes, and raw materials.
  • Experience working in a regulated, nuclear, energy, industrial, or quality-controlled manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of supplier quality requirements, export-controlled documentation, and technical procurement practices.

Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Operations Management, Business Administration, or combination of degree and experience.
  • 2 years of experience or more in procurement, materials management, or supply chain roles.
  • 2 years of experience or more in a manufacturing facility.
