Senior Manager, Software Engineering

We are looking for aย Senior Softwareย Engineeringย Managerย to join our Universal DDI Team in Burnaby, BC reporting to the Director of Software Engineering. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and direct management of development teams around the world. Yourย teamsย willย leverageย cutting-edgeย technology, contribute to open-source initiatives, and use our microservice-based architecture to build cloud-based network service offerings. Be a Contributor -ย Whatย you'llย do:ย 

  • Manage agile teams in a continuous integration environment; build multiple products on a shared, microservice-based platform; and reliably deliver high-quality content on scheduleย 
  • Manage andย facilitateย multiple development teams to ensure development efforts meet corporate qualityย objectivesย and launch targetsย 
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to best practicesย 
  • Drive the use of AI-enabled developer tools and automation responsibly
  • Drive product development from requirements to delivery, work with product management to define user stories, manage development sprints, and coordinate development efforts with other teamsย 
  • Champion development best practices within the organization, including but not limited to design, architecture, re-use, performance, and qualityย 
  • Prioritize and manage resource allocations based on changing business priorities, direction, and budgetย 
  • Attract, recruit, andย retainย capable individuals to build high-performing teams andย establishย mission and purpose for individuals and teamsย 
  • Perform career coaching and personal development; evaluate performance, including team input; and provide guidance and corrective actionsย 
  • Interact with executive managementย regardingย development issues and opportunitiesย 

Be Prepared -ย What you Bring:ย 

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in software technology with at least 5 years of experience building and mentoring high-performance development teamsย ย 
  • History of leading teams to deliver innovative, easy-to-use, high-performance enterprise SaaS applicationsย 
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, build, coach, and manage a world-class development organizationย 
  • Strong architecture skills andย technologyย knowledge. Ability to lead andย participateย in architecture, design, and technology discussions. Ability toย facilitateย the process of resolving challenging technical and architectural issues within and across groups.ย 
  • Strong knowledge of agile development process and CI/CD environments, specifically related to SaaS-based applicationsย 
  • Knowledge of cloud-based infrastructures-Docker, Kubernetes, and AWSย ย ย 
  • Strongย developing and debuggingย skillsย in system and/or object-oriented languages such as Go, C, Javaย or similar in a Linux environmentย 
  • Strong knowledge of software design, data structures, and algorithms
  • Ability to use automation and AI-assisted tools thoughtfully to improve development efficiency, debugging, and analysis
  • Deepย Networking knowledge and experience with DNS and DHCP protocolsย 
  • Familiarity with database design, scalability, and performance is strongly desiredย 
  • Strong knowledge in software design, data structures, and algorithmsย 
  • Bachelor's degree in CS, CE, or EE isย requiredย and a master's in CS, CE, or EE is preferredย

First 90 Days:ย Immerse in our culture, connect with mentors (Blox Buddies), and map the systems and meet with key stakeholders that rely on your work. Discuss and create short/long term goals.

Six Months:ย Develop your knowledge of our cloud-based application platform, micro-service architecture, and our development processes.ย  Lead multiple geographically diverse development teams, delivering value to our customers with our agile CI/CD pipelines.ย  Deliver high-quality features within agile sprints, improve system performance and scalability and contribute to architecture discussions and technical innovation.ย 

One Year:ย ย Work with our engineering and product management teams to define requirements and design new applications for our cloud-managed SaaS solutionsย 

Champion quality, innovation, and efficiency in our development tools, architecture, and processes.ย  Facilitate the successful adoption of our SaaS products by working with our customers,ย identifyingย enhancements, and prioritizing development.
