Job description

SUMMARY

The Drafting Technician is responsible for creating and maintaining detailed technical drawings and documentation that support Chandler Engineering's product lines. This role works closely with engineers and designers to translate concepts and specifications into precise mechanical drawings used in manufacturing. The position reports to the Quality & Document Control Manager and plays a key role in maintaining a high level of accuracy for drawings, Engineering changes, documentation control, and adherence to quality standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create detailed mechanical drawings using CAD software in accordance with engineering specifications and industry standards
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to interpret technical requirements and design intent
  • Revise and update drawings based on engineering changes, feedback, and project updates
  • Support engineering data input into the ERP system (e.g. item master part setup, bills of material, and routings)
  • Maintain organized, controlled records of drawings and related documentation
  • Verify drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with quality requirements
  • Ensure drawings align with applicable codes, standards, and manufacturing practices
  • Support document control activities related to drawing release and revision history
  • Identify and resolve drawing discrepancies prior to release to manufacturing
  • Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders regarding drawing changes and updates
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Associate degree in Drafting, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field OR
  • 0-2 years of relevant drafting or technical drawing experience
  • Working knowledge of CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar platforms

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience supporting manufacturing or engineered product environments
  • Familiarity with mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes

  • Strong technical and spatial reasoning skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication
