Senior C++ Software Engineer (Level 4)
Location: Chicago, IL | Reston, VA | Englewood, CO or NYC, NY
Work Arrangement: Hybrid
Full-time role
Salary $150,000-$160,000 with flex depending on candidate and location.
The Judge Group is seeking a Senior C++ Software Engineer to join a high-performing engineering organization focused on building and supporting large-scale distributed systems. This role is ideal for an experienced software engineer who thrives in backend environments, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and has hands-on experience developing production-grade systems at scale.
As a Senior Engineer, you will design, develop, optimize, and support distributed services that process high volumes of data in mission-critical environments. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-performing software solutions.
What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend applications using C++
  • Build and support distributed systems operating in large-scale production environments
  • Participate in architecture discussions and technical design reviews
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues
  • Optimize system performance, scalability, reliability, and availability
  • Collaborate with Product, QA, Operations, and Engineering teams throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Contribute to code reviews, testing strategies, and engineering best practices
  • Develop technical documentation and support system modernization initiatives
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • 4+ years of software engineering experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with C++ development in production environments
  • Experience developing backend or distributed systems
  • Experience working within Linux or Unix-based environments
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles
  • Experience troubleshooting, debugging, and supporting production systems
  • Knowledge of database-backed applications and system performance optimization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building high-concurrency, low-latency applications
  • Experience with large-scale distributed architectures
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS
  • Experience with containerization technologies and orchestration platforms
  • Familiarity with caching technologies, messaging systems, or distributed databases
  • Experience working on highly available, mission-critical platforms
  • Knowledge of Go (Golang) or similar modern programming languages
