Job Summary
The Gas Technical Trainer develops, delivers, and administers technical training for Gas Operations personnel. This role creates curriculum, explains complex technical concepts, manages scheduling and documentation through the Company's Learning Management Systems (LMS), evaluates training effectiveness, and partners with Operations to secure Subject Matter Experts as needed. The position requires strong communication skills, flexibility to meet organizational needs, and knowledge of natural gas operations, knowledge of Federal and State regulations within PHMSA 49 CFR 192 and Massachusetts 220 CMR, and thorough knowledge of all Company procedures. The Gas Technical Trainer supports operational safety, compliance, and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deliver technical training related to natural gas distribution and transmission systems, including but not limited to operations, maintenance, construction, and emergency response.
  • Create and maintain training materials such as lesson plans, presentations, assessments, hands-on exercises, and simulations.
  • Deliver classroom, field-based, virtual, and blended learning programs for employees and contractors.
  • Assess the effectiveness of training programs and make improvements based on feedback, field observations, on-the-job coaching, mentoring, performance-based trends and results.
  • Manage training resources, ensuring all materials and equipment are up-to-date and in good working condition.
  • Monitor workforce adherence to operating procedures, company standards, and safety requirements including follow up assessments and post-training evaluations.
  • Stay current on industry codes, standards, technologies, and regulatory changes.
  • Participate in incident reviews, root cause analyses, and corrective action development to identify training-related opportunities and incorporate lessons learned into training programs.
  • Partner with Gas Operations, Engineering, Safety, and management teams to align training initiatives with business and operational needs.
  • Evaluate and document trainee performance, feedback, and coaching geared toward the enhancement of the gas workforce's technical competencies.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum years of experience: 3+ years of experience in the natural gas industry or other relevant technical trade.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, instructional design, or other relevant area of
  • Study.
  • Technical knowledge of:
    • Properties of natural gas, pipeline construction and maintenance, gas safety regulations.
    • Knowledge of 49 CFR Parts 191, 192, and 193.
    • MA 220 CMR.
    • Operator Qualification programs and associated Written Plans.
  • Ability to design and conduct effective training programs including instructional design, presentation skills, and managing the learning environment.
  • Ability to obtain Operator Qualification tasks.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated prior training experience.
