Job description

Meta is seeking a Staff-level Engineering Product Configuration Manager to join our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) organization and lead product configuration strategy and governance across hardware and systems engineering programs. In this role, you will define and own the configuration management framework that ensures product integrity from early engineering development through mass production, spanning data center server hardware and infrastructure systems. You will serve as the authoritative voice on engineering change management, bill of materials governance, and configuration baseline control, partnering closely with hardware engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and program management to ensure product definitions are accurate, controlled, and traceable at every stage of the product lifecycle.
PLM- Engineering Product Configuration Manager Responsibilities:
  • Define and own the end-to-end product configuration management strategy, including baseline establishment, change control governance, and configuration status accounting across hardware product lines
  • Lead engineering change management processes, evaluating change requests for technical feasibility, cost impact, schedule risk, and supply chain readiness before routing through approval workflows
  • Govern bill of materials accuracy and integrity across all product lifecycle phases, partnering with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams to maintain structured and validated product definitions
  • Establish and enforce configuration identification standards, part numbering schemas, and revision control practices across cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams
  • Drive configuration audits, including functional configuration audits and physical configuration audits, to verify product builds conform to approved design documentation and specifications
  • Collaborate with supply chain and commodity management teams to assess engineering change impacts on component availability, supplier qualifications, and inventory disposition
  • Develop and maintain configuration management plans, policies, and tooling standards that scale across multiple concurrent hardware programs and product generations
  • Partner with program management and systems engineering to align configuration baselines with program milestones, design freeze gates, and manufacturing readiness reviews
  • Identify systemic gaps in configuration control processes and lead cross-functional initiatives to improve traceability, reduce engineering change cycle time, and increase first-pass build accuracy
  • Provide configuration management expertise and guidance to engineering teams, establishing best practices and ensuring consistent application of configuration discipline across the organization

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of experience in engineering product configuration management, engineering change management, or product lifecycle management within hardware or consumer electronics development
  • Experience establishing and governing bill of materials structures, part numbering systems, and revision control processes across multi-disciplinary hardware programs
  • Experience leading configuration control boards or engineering change review processes, including impact assessment across engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing domains
  • Experience with PLM systems (such as Agile, Windchill, Arena, or equivalent) for configuration baseline management and engineering change workflows
  • Experience conducting configuration audits and ensuring product build conformance to approved design documentation across hardware product lifecycle phases

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
  • Familiarity with IPC-2578, EIA-649, or equivalent configuration management standards applied to commercial hardware development
  • Experience managing configuration management programs for data center server hardware, infrastructure systems, or other high-complexity technical hardware with rapid iteration cycles
  • Track record of defining configuration management tooling strategy and driving cross-functional adoption across large engineering organizations
  • Experience integrating configuration management processes with manufacturing execution systems and supply chain planning tools to support clear-to-build readiness
