Job description

Stellar Science is a growing scientific software development company that develops custom software products and performs research and development in multiple high-tech domains. We are seeking a talented technical writer to write and edit technical reports, technical proposals, and software user documentation in support of scientists and software developers at our headquarters in Albuquerque, NM or in our office in Tysons Corner, VA. Join our unique, collaborative team to help create leading-edge scientific software documentation in fascinating domains including space situational awareness, computer vision, directed energy, metamaterials, and biothermal modeling.
This position requires excellent writing and editing skills and the ability to quickly learn new concepts while working in an agile software development environment with multiple software products. A willingness to dig into software to learn the products and document user workflows is also required.
This individual will:

  • Write and edit scientific technical reports
  • Edit technical proposals describing novel research
  • Deliver high-quality technical documentation
  • Create and maintain help files for software products
  • Create training documentation
  • Work in an agile software development environment


Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum five years of technical writing experience
  • Experience with user-focused writing and documentation
  • Ability to edit highly technical and scientific documentation
  • Excellent MS Word skills
  • Experience with version control systems 
  • Excellent communication skills to include working within a distributed organization
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Previous experience working in an agile software development environment
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic


Desired qualifications

  • Experience with Markdown, Sphinx, and documentation as code 
  • Experience with Git and command-line shells
  • Ability to create video training
