THIS POSITION MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE. THE AMOUNT OF TELEWORK IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE DEPARTMENT AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS BUSINESS NEEDS ARISE.
Are you looking for a fast-paced and challenging position that will provide you with extremely valuable system solution testing exposure and experience with an extensive variety, and frequent exposure to all levels of management and staff in the Employment Development Department (EDD), Information Technology Branch (ITB)? The EDD is looking for a highly motivated and qualified individual to work in the Enterprise Testing Office (ETO) as an IT Specialist I.
This position reports to the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Web-Application Group, IT Supervisor II in the Enterprise Testing Office (ETO). ETO provides various testing services that include, but are not limited to, system testing, performance testing, and automation testing. ETO is also responsible for maintaining complex test environments and handling testing support functions, such as data mining and data encryption. This position provides an opportunity to apply business knowledge and technical experience to support EDD in testing, supporting our internal and external customers that use these systems daily, primarily the EDD Disability Insurance program and systems.
The successful candidate has excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize multiple tasks with competing deadlines, and can work well independently and with other team members.
This position is eligible for telework under EDD's telework policy. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change as business needs arise. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office on their assigned in-office days. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee.

  • Hands on experience across various testing types and phases, including System, Integration, Functional, Regression, API, Data, Manual, Automation, and End to End testing.
  • Proficiency in reviewing requirements and design documentation to identify gaps and produce high quality test deliverables.
  • Experience designing test plans, writing and executing test scripts, and documenting results.
  • Strong understanding of test management tools such as ALM, JIRA, and similar platforms.
  • Background in mainframe and backend database testing, with competence in SQL for validation and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of EDD benefit programs and their supporting automated systems relating to Disability Insurance, Unemployment Insurance and Paid Family Leave.
  • Experience working within Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid SDLC frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of test automation and collaboration with automation teams.
