What is a tech startup?

A tech startup is a newly established company that focuses on developing and bringing innovative technology-based products or services to market. These companies typically aim for rapid growth by leveraging technology to solve problems in new ways or disrupt existing industries. Tech startups often begin with a small team and rely on venture capital or other investments to scale quickly. Their culture is usually fast-paced, adaptable, and centered around innovation. Many of today’s largest tech companies, like Google and Facebook, began as startups.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tech startup founder?

To thrive as a Tech Startup Founder, you need a strong entrepreneurial mindset, business acumen, technical knowledge relevant to your product, and experience in business development or a related field. Familiarity with cloud platforms, agile development frameworks, project management tools like Jira or Trello, and fundraising platforms is crucial. Exceptional leadership, resilience, adaptability, and the ability to communicate vision effectively are standout soft skills in this role. These skills are essential to drive innovation, secure resources, lead teams, and successfully navigate rapidly changing startup environments.

What are some common challenges faced when working at a tech startup, and how can I prepare for them?

Working at a tech startup often involves adapting to rapid changes, wearing multiple hats, and collaborating closely with a small, agile team. You may encounter challenges such as shifting priorities, tight deadlines, and limited resources, which require flexibility and proactive problem-solving. To prepare, focus on building strong communication skills, be open to learning new tools and technologies quickly, and embrace a growth mindset. Startups often value initiative and creativity, so demonstrating these traits can help you thrive in this dynamic environment.

Job description

Work Location: In person (hybrid)

Come build something real at a fast-growing tech startup, where your work on day one actually moves the business. We're looking for someone with real technical fluency who can own the backbone of our paid advertising.

The Role

As our Paid Media Specialist, you'll run our paid advertising operation end to end, with real technical fluency across platforms and a deep understanding of what happens under the hood: platform setup, event and conversion tracking, technical audits, and structured testing across Meta, LinkedIn, Reddit, Quora, and newer platforms like ChatGPT. This isn't a role where someone else builds the technical foundation and you just launch creative; you'll own that foundation yourself.

What you'll do:

  • Set up and manage paid campaigns across Meta, LinkedIn, Reddit, Quora, and emerging AI/chat ad platforms
  • Build and troubleshoot event tracking and conversion setups across all channels
  • Conduct technical audits to catch tracking issues, attribution gaps, and setup errors before they affect performance
  • Design and execute structured A/B tests across creative, audience, and campaign structure
  • Manage remarketing and audience targeting strategy
  • Own reporting and performance analysis, turning findings into clear optimization actions
  • Partner with the creative team to test new formats and messaging
  • Stay ahead of new paid channels, including AI-driven platforms, and evaluate them for testing

What you bring:

  • 4-6 years in paid media, paid social, or performance advertising
  • Strong technical fluency: platform setup, pixel/event tracking, and analytics implementation
  • Hands-on experience designing and running structured A/B tests
  • Comfort working across a broad and evolving set of ad platforms
  • Strong analytical skills and fluency in GA4 or similar analytics tools
  • High ownership mindset: able to run paid media independently, end to end

Bonus: experience testing or launching on newer/less mature ad platforms, or working in a startup environment

Why You'll Like It Here

  • Real technical ownership of paid media, not just campaign execution
  • Direct collaboration with the founder and leadership team on strategy
