Job description

Position Summary:ย 
Henderson Building Solutions is seeking a Commissioning Technician (Start-Up Refrigeration) to support field startup, testing, and troubleshooting of commercial and industrial refrigeration systems. This role can be based out of any of our national offices.
The Commissioning Technician plays a critical role in executing commissioning and start-up activities for ammonia (NH3), CO2 transcritical, and hybrid refrigeration systems. This includes performing pre-functional checks, system start-up, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure systems operate in accordance with design intent, manufacturer requirements, IIAR and ASHRAE standards, and applicable codes.ย 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Creates owner project requirements, construction plans and specifications
  • Reviews drawings and maintains a record of comments
  • Generate checklists and tests for equipment
  • Make site visits to complete pre-functional test checklists
  • Generates site observation and issues reports
  • Reviews equipment submittals and maintains a record of comments
  • Performs testing, adjusting and balancing tasks, which includes adjusting air and hydronic systems
  • Makes site visits to complete functional performance tests
  • Generates site observation and issues reports
  • Generates final reports
  • Makes site visits to troubleshoot issues
  • Assesses equipment operation and conditions
  • Generates reports summarizing visits, equipment conditions and recommendations
  • Develops and maintains client relationships
  • Setups projects and folders
  • Evaluates budgets to determine the proper allocation of resources and time for each job

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in relevant field of engineering required, or 4+ years of experience without a relevant degree. Common examples include Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, or Architectural Engineering.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Commissioning certification preferred (NEBB TAB Tech or Cx Tech)
  • Previous commissioning or testing/balancing experience preferred
  • Experience commissioning ammonia (NH3) and/or CO2 refrigeration systems preferredย 
  • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out the functions of this job
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work with some degree of independence but may require frequent supervision and mentoring
  • Ability to understand drawings and specifications and how they translate into a building
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems for commercial, institutional and light industrial facilities as they relate to commissioning
  • Basic knowledge of Automation and controls systems, HVAC systems, plumbing, fire alarm/life safety systems, lighting and lighting controls, and test and balance
  • Have an understanding of ASHRAE, ACG and LEED commissioning requirements
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit and Bluebeam
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Valid driverโ€™s license

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

  • Significant travel required โ€“ approximately 50% of time
  • Must be flexible and able to travel with little notice
  • Ability to work varying shift times depending on the project, i.e. night or weekends
  • Ability to be on your feet all day and climb ladders
