Job description

About The Information
The Information is the go-to source of in-depth reporting for the most influential leaders in technology and business. Founded in 2013 and headquartered in San Francisco, our original, high-quality journalism has the power to inform the most consequential decisions shaping our future, and we've built a community of 700,000 active readers who depend on us to do just that. We have a financially healthy business, plenty of capital, and big ambitions to grow our team and business.
About the role
The Information is seeking a reporter to break news and write deeply reported features on venture capital and startups. The reporter will scoop hot startup funding rounds as well as report on the startups' financials. They'll keep the pulse on how the most influential VC firms are doing-including by profiling their leaders and breaking news on their returns. They'll want to write features that spotlight emerging trends, from perks investors are offering to win deals to the ways venture firms' limited partners are exerting their influence.
We also want to elevate the reach and stature of our reporters. The reporter will co-write our award-winning Dealmaker franchise and will have the opportunity to moderate at our conferences and appear on our new streaming video show.
This reporter will join a team of collegial reporters who share tips and collaborate without some of the typical bureaucracy that characterizes big newsrooms. Strong reporting is the driving pulse of this newsroom, fostered by editors and senior reporters who actively coach reporters on how to advance their reporting and writing.
What you'll do
  • Break news about VC deals, including funds, performance, and leadership changes
  • Write in-depth profiles of the most important investors, startup founders and trends
  • Immerse oneself in the topic to write with authority and generate story ideas
  • Contribute to editorial products such as Next GP list, TI 50 and org charts
  • Keep and cultivate relationships with trusted sources
  • Work with colleagues out of our three newsrooms

Qualifications
  • At least two years of business reporting experience
  • A track record of scoop-based reporting in business, technology or politics
  • Ability to cultivate sources and develop a beat
  • Familiarity with major developments in tech and finance over the last three years
  • Bachelor's degree
  • The ability to work out of The Information's San Francisco office.

Why Join Us?
At The Information, you'll have the opportunity to work with a team of passionate professionals, shaping the future of tech and business journalism. We're committed to fostering a collaborative, inclusive environment where innovative ideas thrive. If you're excited about the chance to make an impact with your marketing expertise and help grow a brand that's setting the standard for quality journalism, we'd love to hear from you.
Benefits
We offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package designed to support the well-being of our employees and their families, including:
  • Company-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and their dependents
  • Medical coverage that includes fertility care and $0 copays for in-office mental health visits with in-network providers
  • Paid parental leave to support and empower new parents
  • Generous paid time off (PTO) that increases with tenure
  • 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) for healthcare and dependent care expenses
  • Fitness and wellness stipend to encourage a healthy lifestyle
  • Monthly cell phone reimbursement
  • Company-sponsored lunches in the office every Monday
  • Commuter benefits
  • A supportive, inclusive, and diverse work environment with a zero-tolerance policy for harassment

This is a hybrid role with office attendance required 3 days/week.
Salary Range: $120,000 - $200,000 USD Annually + Bonus + Benefits
The salary range posted is based on the company's good faith belief at the time of the posting. Actual compensation may vary above or below this range based on factors such as location, work experience, and skill level.
We are an equal-opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
