Position Summary
The Director of Marketing & Branding is a hands-on leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing Opportunities, Inc.'s comprehensive marketing, branding, communications, and public relations strategy. This position develops and executes an annual marketing plan that strengthens the organization's brand, supports strategic growth, and reinforces Opportunities, Inc.'s reputation as a leader in providing innovative services for individuals with diverse abilities and as an employer of choice.
Working closely with Executive Leadership and department leaders, the Director leads corporate marketing, internal and external communications, public relations, digital marketing, recruitment marketing, and community engagement initiatives while ensuring consistent messaging across the organization. This individual combines strategic vision with day-to-day execution to effectively communicate the organization's mission, values, services, and community impact.
Essential Responsibilities
Strategic Marketing & Brand Leadership
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and branding strategy aligned with the organization's strategic goals.
  • Protect and strengthen the Opportunities, Inc. brand by ensuring consistent messaging and visual identity across all communication channels.
  • Position the organization as an industry leader, trusted community partner, and employer of choice.
  • Monitor marketing trends, industry best practices, and campaign performance to drive continuous improvement.
  • Establish and maintain brand standards throughout the organization.

Corporate Communications
  • Develop and oversee internal and external communication strategies that effectively communicate organizational priorities, initiatives, and achievements.
  • Lead the creation of executive communications, presentations, speeches, newsletters, and organizational messaging.
  • Serve as the primary communications advisor to Executive Leadership.
  • Ensure organizational communications are timely, accurate, and consistent.
  • Coordinate crisis communication planning and messaging when necessary.

Public & Media Relations
  • Serve as the organization's primary media contact.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local, regional, and industry media.
  • Coordinate press releases, media interviews, public announcements, and organizational events.
  • Promote organizational accomplishments, partnerships, and community impact through strategic public relations efforts.
  • Monitor and protect the organization's public image and reputation.

Digital Marketing & Content Strategy
  • Provide strategic oversight of the organization's website, social media platforms, email marketing, digital advertising, and online presence.
  • Develop engaging, mission-driven content that supports organizational goals across all digital platforms.
  • Utilize analytics to evaluate campaign effectiveness and optimize marketing performance.
  • Oversee editorial calendars and content strategies that highlight employees, participants, customers, and community partnerships.

Internal Communications & Employee Engagement
  • Lead internal communication efforts that keep employees informed, engaged, and connected to organizational priorities.
  • Oversee employee communications, including intranet content, newsletters, announcements, and leadership messaging.
  • Support initiatives that reinforce organizational culture, employee recognition, and engagement.

Recruitment Marketing
  • Partner with Human Resources to strengthen employer branding and recruitment marketing initiatives.
  • Oversee employment advertising, recruitment campaigns, career event materials, and digital recruitment efforts.
  • Develop messaging that attracts high-quality candidates who align with the organization's mission and culture.

Community Relations & Organizational Visibility
  • Expand Opportunities, Inc.'s visibility throughout the communities it serves.
  • Research, prepare, and manage grant opportunities while ensuring grant objectives and reporting requirements are met.
  • Build strategic partnerships with businesses, educational institutions, civic organizations, and community leaders.
  • Represent the organization at networking events, community functions, and public engagements.
  • Promote awareness of organizational programs, services, and community impact.

Leadership & Collaboration
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and direction to the Marketing and Agency Relations team.
  • Collaborate with Executive Leadership, Human Resources, Mission Services, Social Enterprises, and other departments to ensure coordinated marketing and communication efforts.
  • Manage marketing budgets, agency relationships, vendor partnerships, and marketing technologies.
  • Establish measurable goals and key performance indicators to evaluate marketing effectiveness and organizational impact.

Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Experience
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, branding, communications, or public relations.
  • Minimum of five years of leadership or management experience.
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing strategic marketing initiatives.
  • Experience leading digital marketing, communications, branding, and public relations efforts across multiple platforms.
  • Nonprofit or human services experience preferred.
