Director, IT Data & AI Product Owner โ€“ PDM & Tech Ops

As part of our enterprise AI strategy to accelerate PDM and Tech Ops process and deliver therapies to patients faster, we are seeking a Director, IT Data/AI Product Owner โ€“ PDM and Tech Ops to lead AI/data product strategy across PDM and Tech Ops.

In this leadership role, you will define and drive a portfolio-level product vision and roadmap for AI-enabled PDM and Tech Ops capabilities spanning Technical Development, Product and Process Development and Quality Areas

You will serve as the IT Data & AI Center of Excellence (COE) lead for PDM and Tech Ops AI product/s, acting as the primary interface between PDM and Tech Ops stakeholders and IT, and shaping how AI is applied to improve knowledge management, Quality processes and decisionโ€‘making for Technical Development, PD, and Quality. Reporting to the Senior Director, Data & AI, who will oversee a portfolio of AIโ€‘enabled products, lead product owners within the PDM and Tech Ops and other domains, and guide crossโ€‘functional teams to deliver highโ€‘impact solutions at scale.

As the IT product owner, you will own the product vision, roadmap and stakeholder engagement for AIโ€‘enabled reporting, planning and analytics use cases while understanding the technical architecture required to deliver solutions.

This position is based in Foster City, CA (hybrid-eligible).

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and lead product strategy and multiโ€‘year roadmap for AIโ€‘enabled Technical Development and Quality capabilities.
  • Partner with senior PDM and Tech Ops leaders to identify highโ€‘impact AI opportunities, identify pain points, and advanced analytics opportunities, and develop compelling business cases
  • Lead and mentor AI Delivery Leads, Data Scientists and Product Managers. Prioritize the product backlog based on business value, risk, technical feasibility, and alignment with enterprise data and AI strategy.
  • Establish and scale product operating model for consistency in delivery.
  • Translate business objectives into clear product requirements and backlog items, incorporating data architecture, platform constraints, and scalability considerations.
  • Own the endโ€‘toโ€‘end product vision and multiโ€‘year roadmap for a portfolio of AIโ€‘enabled capabilities for Technical Development, PD and Quality decisionโ€‘support, balancing enterprise priorities, platform constraints and value realization.
  • Align solutions with data architecture, AI/ML capabilities, and platforms. Ensure adherence to GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11 and regulated SDLC process.
  • Define and track success metrics such as cost reduction, productivity gains, user adoption, and satisfaction; use insights to guide continuous improvement.
  • Drive change management and user adoption, including designing for user experience, stakeholder communications, training strategies, and feedback loops.
  • Own the vendor and partner strategy for product support, including external development capacity and AI/LLM capabilities, in coordination with IT and Procurement.
  • Identify gaps between currentโ€‘state capabilities and targetโ€‘state solutions, influencing Databricks, AWS, and data platform evolution in partnership with technical leaders.
  • Ensure compliance with GxP, privacy, and data governance requirements.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clinical development leadership, applying strong business and financial acumen to evaluate tradeโ€‘offs and recommend dataโ€‘ and AIโ€‘driven solutions.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Bachelorโ€™s with 12+ years or Masterโ€™s/PhD with 10+ years in relevant field.
  • Strong understanding of clinical development processes including trial operations and data management.
  • Experience leading AI/data product portfolios and teams.
  • Strong executive stakeholder engagement and influence skills.
  • Ability to translate complex business problems into scalable AI solutions.
  • Knowledge of AI/data platforms (AWS, Databricks).
  • Experience in Agile product delivery environments.
  • Strong business acumen and prioritization skills.
Differentiators
  • Experience in PD, Quality systems, and understanding of CMC, manufacturing and supply chain analytics

The salary range for this position is: $226,185.00 - $292,710.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stockโ€‘based longโ€‘term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
