What is a Tech Internships job?

A tech internship is a temporary, hands-on work experience in the technology field, typically for students or recent graduates. Interns gain practical skills in areas like software development, data analysis, cybersecurity, or IT support. These internships allow individuals to apply their academic knowledge to real-world projects, collaborate with professionals, and build industry connections. Many tech companies offer internships as a pathway to full-time employment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Tech Internships position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Tech Internships, you need a foundation in computer science principles, programming skills (such as Python, Java, or C++), and relevant coursework like data structures or web development. Familiarity with developer tools such as Git, integrated development environments (IDEs), and basic understanding of software development methodologies is often expected. Strong communication, willingness to learn, adaptability, and problem-solving skills help interns stand out. These abilities are crucial for quickly contributing to projects, collaborating with diverse teams, and maximizing learning experiences during the internship.

What types of projects or responsibilities can I expect as a Tech Intern?

As a Tech Intern, you will often work on real-world projects such as debugging software, contributing to feature development, working on automation scripts, or assisting with data analysis. Interns frequently participate in code reviews, attend team meetings, and collaborate with engineers to understand best practices and workflow. Depending on the company, you might also help test new products, document code, or support QA efforts. These experiences are designed to give you hands-on exposure to professional software development processes and help you build both technical and teamwork skills for your future career.

Job description

Superior Group of Companies

Location: St. Petersburg, FL
Start Date: June 2026
Commitment: ~20 hours/week (part-time through graduation)

About the Opportunity

Superior Group of Companies (SGC) is launching an AI Internship Program as part of our enterprise AI strategy.

This is not a traditional internship. Interns will be embedded within our Data, Integration & AI team (Center of Excellence) and business teams, working on real, high-impact projects that drive automation, efficiency, and innovation across the organization.

This program is designed to build a long-term talent pipeline, with interns growing alongside the business and gaining meaningful experience each semester.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and support AI and automation solutions using modern tools and platforms
  • Assist with business process improvement, documentation, and process mining
  • Partner with teams across SGC to identify opportunities for efficiency and innovation
  • Research and introduce new AI tools, trends, and best practices
  • Support development and testing of AI-powered workflows
  • Contribute to real projects from day one—not just shadowing

What We’re Looking For

  • Rising Junior (completing sophomore year) pursuing a degree in:
    • Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Business, or related field
  • AI-savvy or strong interest in AI, automation, and emerging technologies
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
  • Curious, motivated, and eager to make an impact
  • Strong communication skills (technical and non-technical)
  • Ability to commit ~20 hours/week during the school year through graduation

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience with AI tools, automation, and business transformation
  • Exposure to real-world applications of AI across multiple business functions
  • Opportunity to work closely with IT leadership and cross-functional teams
  • A structured path to full-time opportunities post-graduation
  • Continuous growth and increasing responsibility each semester

Why This Program Matters

This internship is part of SGC’s broader AI strategy to:

  • Improve efficiency through automation and intelligent workflows
  • Build internal AI capabilities across all functions
  • Develop the next generation of AI-enabled business talent

Interns are a key part of this vision—helping shape how AI is used across the company.
