Position Summary 

The Director of Ecommerce Engineering is a technology leader responsible for delivering secure, scalable, reliable, and high-performing digital commerce solutions that enable exceptional customer experiences and support Hanna Andersson's long-term growth. 

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this role leads the ecommerce engineering organization through people leadership, technical stewardship, operational excellence, and cross-functional partnership. The Director is accountable for building high-performing engineering teams, delivering strategic initiatives, modernizing the commerce platform, and ensuring technology investments align with business objectives. 

The Director will lead the evolution of Hanna's commerce ecosystem - including Salesforce Commerce Cloud, headless commerce, payment platforms, customer data capabilities and CRM, AI-enabled engineering practices, OMS, product information mangement, POS, and future omnichannel initiatives - while driving continuous improvement in engineering quality, delivery, reliability, and operational efficiency. 

This is a full-time, exempt position. The role may be remote or hybrid based on business needs and requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams. The Director is expected to support critical production events, peak business periods, and high-priority initiatives while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

What You'll Do:

Engineering Leadership & Organizational Health 

  • Build, lead, coach, and retain a high-performing engineering organization of 1-4 scrum teams, through hiring, mentoring, performance management, career development, and contracting.  
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, quality of craft, continuous learning, and operational excellence. 
  • Establish clear expectations, monitor organizational health, and ensure the team has the skills, capacity, and engagement necessary to meet business objectives. 
  • Work closely with other IT leaders across Infrastructure, Data, Technical, Operations and Infosec to ensure platforms, integrations, and services meet enterprise standards for security, reliability, scalability, performance, and operational excellence.

Delivery Execution & Engineering Operations 

  • Own delivery of the ecommerce engineering roadmap, ensuring predictable execution of strategic initiatives, releases, operational priorities, and production support. 
  • Manage priorities, dependencies, risks, resourcing, and release readiness while improving delivery quality, transparency, and predictability. 
  • Continuously improve engineering operating practices, including Agile delivery, SDLC, QA, DevOps, CI/CD, release management, incident response, and operational support. 
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to assess team and stack performance and use data-driven insights to inform decisions. 

Technical Leadership & Platform Stewardship 

  • Provide technical leadership across ecommerce applications, integrations, architecture, and platform modernization initiatives. 
  • Establish engineering standards that promote scalability, maintainability, extendability and performance. 
  • Work with cross functional teams to build in security, accessibility, and reliability, and long-term platform health. 
  • Champion the long-term health of Hanna’s ecommerce technology ecosystem by establishing technical direction, architecture, and governance that enable efficient sustainable growth and operational excellence. 
  • Lead modernization of Hanna's commerce ecosystem, including Salesforce Commerce Cloud, composable commerce, APIs, integrations, cloud services, and supporting technologies. 

Platform Reliability & Customer Experience 

  • Ensure the availability, scalability, security, and performance of customer-facing ecommerce platforms. 
  • Proactively prepare systems for seasonal peaks, product launches, and other high-volume events while minimizing operational risk and customer impact. 
  • Partner across engineering, infrastructure, and security teams to continuously improve monitoring, resiliency, incident management, and operational maturity. 

Cross-Functional Leadership 

  • Partner with Program Management, Product, UX, Ecommerce, Marketing, Merchandising, Customer Experience, Operations, Distribution, Finance, and Information Systems to translate business strategy into technology execution. 
  • Build trusted relationships across the organization, communicate technical tradeoffs clearly, and ensure engineering serves as a strategic business partner. 
  • Drive alignment across stakeholders through effective planning, governance, communication, and transparent reporting. 

Technology Strategy, Innovation & AI 

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve customer experience, engineering productivity, and business performance. 
  • Champion responsible adoption of AI across engineering, leveraging modern tools to improve software development, testing, documentation, operational efficiency, and developer effectiveness while maintaining appropriate governance and quality standards. 
  • Support the evolution of Hanna's digital capabilities, including personalization, search, fulfillment, customer data, and future omnichannel experiences. 

Vendor, Financial & Platform Stewardship 

  • Lead strategic relationships with technology vendors, implementation partners, and managed service providers. 
  • Support platform selection, contract negotiations, renewals, budgeting, and technology investment decisions while optimizing cost, value, scalability, and long-term maintainability. 
  • Ensure third-party partners meet delivery expectations, technical standards, security requirements, and service commitments. 

Strategic Programs & Special Projects 

  • Lead cross-functional strategic initiatives beyond day-to-day engineering operations, including platform modernization, enterprise integrations, organizational transformation, and executive-sponsored technology programs. 
  • Partner across customer experience, brand marketing, payments, finance, operations, and fulfillment experience initiatives to deliver integrated business capabilities. 
You Should Have:

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing software engineering organizations. 
  • Extensive experience delivering customer-facing ecommerce platforms and digital commerce solutions. 
  • Strong understanding of modern ecommerce architectures, including headless or composable commerce platforms, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, APIs, cloud technologies, integrations, and microservices. 
  • Experience integrating ecommerce platforms with payment, merchandising, product and pricing/promotion systems, CRM, OMS, fulfillment, and customer engagement technologies. 
  • Strong knowledge of Agile delivery, DevOps, CI/CD, software quality, observability, security, and engineering best practices. 
  • Experience applying AI-enabled engineering tools and automation to improve software delivery, quality, and operational effectiveness. 
  • Proven ability to balance business priorities, customer experience, delivery speed, technical quality, operational risk, and cost. 
  • Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, analytical, and decision-making skills. 
  • Experience managing technology vendors, budgets, consulting partners, contracts, and strategic technology investments. 

Education & Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent experience will be considered. 
  • 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including enterprise ecommerce platforms. 
  • 5+ years leading engineering teams, managers, or technical organizations. 
  • Experience within retail, direct-to-consumer, apparel, consumer products, or similar digital commerce environments preferred. 
  • Experience leading platform modernization, enterprise systems integration, or digital transformation initiatives strongly preferred.
