Director, Enterprise Communications 

Position Summary

Citizens is seeking a Director, Enterprise Communications to serve as a senior strategic communications counselor supporting the company's enterprise narrative, technology communications, corporate reputation, innovation agenda, and issues management efforts. This highly visible role will partner closely with the Head of Enterprise Communications to help develop and execute communications strategies that advance Citizens' business priorities, strengthen its reputation, and position the company for future growth. The role will serve as a central connector across executive leadership, business lines, media relations, corporate affairs, technology, and transformation initiatives to ensure a cohesive and compelling enterprise story. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable advising senior executives, shaping strategic narratives, leading cross-functional communications efforts, preparing leaders for high-profile engagements, and managing complex reputational or business issues.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Executive Communications

  • Partner closely with the Head of Enterprise Communications to support communications for the President and other senior executives including the CIO and the Head of Enterprise Strategy.
  • Develop executive positioning strategies, key messages, speeches, presentations, talking points, and thought leadership content.
  • Coordinate communications initiatives across internal and external audiences.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on communications strategy and stakeholder engagement.

Technology, Innovation & Future-Focused Communications

  • Provide strategic oversight for communications supporting enterprise technology, innovation, AI, and related initiatives.
  • Translate complex business and technology topics into clear, compelling narratives for internal and external audiences.
  • Partner with technology leaders to support major announcements, change initiatives, and executive visibility opportunities.
  • Lead global efforts supporting the company's GCC in India.

Enterprise Narrative & Corporate Positioning

  • Help develop and manage the company's overarching corporate narrative and strategic messaging platform.
  • Ensure alignment across major enterprise initiatives, including transformation, innovation, artificial intelligence, technology modernization, community impact, and business performance.
  • Identify opportunities to elevate Citizens' reputation through proactive storytelling and thought leadership.

Issues Management & Crisis Communications

  • Support enterprise crisis preparedness and response efforts.
  • Lead development of communications plans, stakeholder messaging, FAQs, scenario planning, and response frameworks for emerging issues.
  • Help maintain and evolve enterprise crisis communications capabilities and governance processes.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate communications strategies involving multiple stakeholders and business partners.
  • Drive integration across communications teams to ensure consistency of messaging, prioritization, and execution.
  • Mentor and develop communications professionals while fostering collaboration across the broader communications organization.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in corporate communications, executive communications, public affairs, public relations, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated success counseling senior executives and business leaders.
  • Strong expertise in reputation management, issues management, and strategic communications.
  • Exceptional writing, messaging, and storytelling capabilities.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders across a complex organization.
  • Experience operating in highly regulated industries is preferred.
  • The ability to navigate ambiguity, connect disparate initiatives, and translate strategy into action.
  • Strong executive presence, business acumen, and judgment.

Pay Transparency

The salary range for this position is $145,000- $210,000 per year, plus an opportunity to earn additional incentive earnings. Actual pay is based on various factors including, but not limited to, the budget, work location, and relevant skills and experience. No other portions of the posting are changing, including benefits language or incentive guidance (e.g., Teller roles should continue to remove incentive language as noted).
