Job description

Senior Project Accountant
Our Calgary-based client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Accountant to support project managers in all commercial aspects of project delivery and ensure project transactions are accurately accounted for, billed, and collected. Reporting to the Controller, this role involves daily interaction to ensure project accounting processes are followed and financial reporting requirements are met. The successful candidate will be comfortable interacting with clients, vendors, employees, and management, and addressing issues as they arise.

Your success will be defined by your ability to:
  • Lead and mentor the Project Billing and Accounts Payable teams, ensuring accurate project cost tracking and billing.
  • Support project setup by establishing commercial terms and onboarding awarded projects.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure project costs are accurately allocated for timely billing.
  • Review and approve monthly invoices for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with client requirements.
  • Oversee invoice tracking, submission, collections, and project closeout activities.
  • Ensure billing consistency, invoice accuracy, and effective resolution of client billing issues.
  • Develop and monitor billing KPIs, project profitability, and actual-to-budget cost analyses.
  • Prepare project financial reports, P&Ls, revenue analysis, and support month-end reporting.
  • Maintain data integrity across systems (AIMSIO, Sage ERP, Beanworks, Textura, Fieldglass, etc).
  • Support audits by providing revenue, cost, collections, and project documentation as required.

  • Collaborate with project teams, clients, vendors, and finance stakeholders to ensure accurate project accounting, billing, and documentation.
  • Oversee project transactions from initiation through billing and collection, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, controls, and reporting.
  • Investigate and resolve unusual transactions, discrepancies, and billing issues in a timely manner.
  • Utilize project accounting systems (AIMSIO, Beanworks, Fieldglass, Textura, OpenInvoice) and BI/AI tools to support operations and analysis.
