Job description

Position Summary

Southern Queens Park Association (SQPA) is seeking a bilingual Group Leader (English/Spanish required) to support youth programming at our Cornerstone site. The Group Leader plays a key role in supervising participants, facilitating activities, and fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment during program hours.

This includes assisting with homework, leading recreational and enrichment activities and ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, responsible, and enjoys working with children.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively with participants, families, and staff in both English and Spanish
  • Supervise and engage a group of students during afterschool hours.
  • Lead structured activities, including arts, sports, STEM, and social-emotional learning.
  • Assist students with homework and provide academic support as needed.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Act as a positive role model, encouraging respect, teamwork, and personal growth.
  • Ensure program rules and policies are followed at all times.
  • Support the program coordinator in planning and implementing activities.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.


Qualifications:

  • Fluency in both English and Spanish (verbal and written) required
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, child development, or related fields is a plus.
  • Experience working with children in a school, camp, or community-based setting.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage a group and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Must meet organization clearance requirements.


Schedule:

  • Afterschool: 15-20 weekly hours
  • Some flexibility may be required for occasional meetings and special events.
