What does teaching yoga involve?

Teaching yoga involves guiding individuals or groups through physical postures, breathing exercises, and sometimes meditation to promote physical health and mental well-being. Yoga instructors plan and lead classes, demonstrate poses, provide modifications for different skill levels, and ensure a safe environment for participants. They may also offer guidance on yogic philosophy or mindfulness techniques. Teaching yoga requires knowledge of anatomy, strong communication skills, and the ability to inspire and motivate students.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a yoga teacher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Yoga Teacher, you need a solid understanding of yoga philosophy, anatomy, and sequencing, typically supported by completion of a Yoga Alliance-certified teacher training program (200-hour RYT or higher). Familiarity with class management software, anatomy apps, and continuing education certifications are commonly utilized in this role. Strong communication, empathy, and motivational skills help build trust and create a positive environment for students. These skills ensure safe instruction, effective learning, and the development of lasting client relationships.

What are some common challenges yoga instructors face when leading group classes, and how can they be addressed?

Yoga instructors often encounter challenges such as managing students with varying skill levels, creating inclusive sequences, and maintaining engagement throughout the class. To address these, instructors can offer modifications for poses, use clear verbal cues, and foster a supportive atmosphere where students feel comfortable progressing at their own pace. Building strong communication skills and regularly seeking feedback also help instructors adapt their teaching to meet the needs of diverse groups.

As a Yoga Teacher, you'll have the flexibility to shape your schedule, design creative lessons, and collaborate with passionate colleagues. Our diverse team of lifelong learners shares a mission to personalize education for every student - academically, socially, and emotionally. Please note: Not all campuses serve grades 4 and 5, and specific details will be shared during the interview process.
What You'll Do:
  • Teach in a truly personalized way - one student at a time.
  • Adapt lessons and assessments to meet each learner's needs.
  • Mentor each student and support their social-emotional growth.
  • Build strong, consistent partnerships with parents and guardians.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to campus life or culture.

  • CPR Certification
  • Ability and willingness to teach yoga postures, breathing techniques, and relaxation methods, following content standards - curriculum and resources provided.
  • Education in nutrition and meditation, a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to teach yoga with only verbal adjustments, no physical adjustments.
  • Experience working with students, including those with learning differences, neurodiversity, accelerated learning needs, and/or mental health challenges.
  • Mentoring experience and a passion for social-emotional learning.
  • Outgoing, adaptable, and eager to thrive in a dynamic, student-centered environment.
  • Skilled with technology, curious about innovation, and open to learning new tools.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • A growth mindset with the flexibility to pivot and problem-solve as needed.
  • Florida residents require level 2 background screening through https://info.flclearinghouse.com/.

Why Fusion?
Because teaching with us means more than delivering lessons - it means being part of a community that believes in you.
