Job description

The Teacher/Instructor is responsible for the planning and leading of structured activities in a particular specialty area. Activities will be led with the assistance of a Group Leader or fellow staff member. While Teachers/Instructors work in partnership with Group Leaders, they are the lead staff member responsible for behavior management and classroom maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Participant Safety

  • Report all concerns regarding the well being of participants to immediate supervisor in a timely manner and no later than the conclusion of the last activity of each day
  • Seek immediate supervisor or emergency assistance when a participant is injured
  • Ensure proper supervision of assigned participants at all times
  • Verify identity before dismissing participants to approved guardian as listed on participant enrollment form

Activity Planning

  • Submit lesson plans for each activity by specified due date, and conduct activity according to approved plans
  • Submit NIA material requests for approval by supervisor
  • Include an active role for Group Leader in activity plan, inclusive of classroom management and activity prep
  • Submit a plan for culminating activity to be showcased at the program culminating event
  • Actively assist with all activities being led by specialists, subcontractors, and/or colleagues

Daily Procedures

  • Perform assigned activity, transition, snack period, and dismissal
  • Use positive behavior management with assigned group at all times
  • Maintain group organization and manage group effectively

Required Skills:

  • At least 1 year of prior experience teaching or facilitating group activities with students
  • High school diploma required
  • College coursework in the areas of education, youth development is expected
  • Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply

Education and Experience:

  • Elementary Education: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Instructor: 1 year (Preferred)
