Key Responsibilities:


The Paraprofessionals / Teachers Assistants assist Special Education Teachers and General Education Teachers in planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of children within a safe, healthy learning environment. They encourage the involvement of the foster/adoptive families in the program and support the development of relationships between children and their families.


  • Assist in the development of lesson plans by compiling and arranging materials, obtaining visual aids and supplies for students and instructors, and distributing and collecting teaching materials.


  • Assist with maintaining classroom order and monitoring student behavior.


  • Provide individualized instruction to students requiring special assistance.


  • Prepare administrative reports such as attendance reports, student records, check papers and projects.


  • Responsible for preventing client abuse by adhering to all policies and procedures, attending periodic training, reporting suspicious and inappropriate behavior, and following mandatory abuse reporting requirements.

Other Duties Include:



  • Maintain a high standard of role model behavior for youth.



  • Participate in training and development activities as required.



  • Report any acts, incidents or conditions that reflect the possibility of inappropriate youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth relationships.



  • Report any use of physical force and all unusual incidents per guidelines.



  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.



Requirements:



Education - High school diploma or equivalent


Experience - Minimum of 3 years' prior relevant teaching assistant experience working with children with developmental and intellectual and/or physical disabilities.


Skills - Ability to think and act independently. Advanced oral and written communication skills.


Physical Demands - Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, push, pull and carry/lift up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to climb, bend or crouch. Specific mental abilities required by this job include continuous concentration to detail; ability to remember multiple tasks, oral and written communication; and an attention span of 1+ hour(s) on a task.


Other - Must maintain an appropriate and valid state driver's license. Must meet state criminal background check requirements.
