What is a TBM driver?

TBM Drivers are skilled operators who control Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) used to excavate tunnels through soil and rock. Their responsibilities include operating the TBM, monitoring its performance, making adjustments as needed, and ensuring the safety of the tunneling process. They work closely with engineers and construction teams to keep the tunneling project on schedule and handle any issues that arise during excavation.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a TBM driver?

To thrive as a TBM Driver, you need technical expertise in operating tunnel boring machines, a strong understanding of underground construction, and typically a relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship. Familiarity with TBM control systems, safety monitoring equipment, and maintenance tools is essential. These skills and qualities are important to ensure efficient, safe, and timely completion of tunneling projects in challenging environments.
