Tax Strategy information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Tax Strategy, and why are they important?

To thrive in Tax Strategy, you need a solid background in accounting or finance, deep knowledge of tax laws, and often a CPA or similar certification. Familiarity with tax preparation software, financial modeling tools, and ERP systems like SAP is typical in this field. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication help professionals excel when interpreting regulations and advising clients or businesses. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring compliance, optimizing tax positions, and supporting organizational financial goals.

Tax Strategy professionals develop long-term tax plans and policies to optimize a company's tax position, often working closely with senior management. Tax Analysts focus on analyzing financial data, preparing tax returns, and ensuring compliance with tax laws. While both roles require strong tax knowledge and certifications, Tax Strategy roles are more strategic and policy-oriented, whereas Tax Analysts are more operational and detail-focused.

What is tax strategy?

Tax strategy refers to the planning and methods individuals or businesses use to minimize their tax liability within the bounds of the law. It involves understanding current tax regulations, identifying deductions, credits, and incentives, and making financial decisions that optimize tax outcomes. Tax strategists analyze financial transactions and structures to ensure compliance while maximizing tax efficiency. Effective tax strategy can lead to substantial savings and improved financial health for both individuals and organizations.

How does a Tax Strategy professional typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Tax Strategy professionals frequently work cross-functionally, partnering with finance, legal, and operations teams to ensure that tax planning aligns with wider business objectives. They provide guidance on tax implications of business decisions, mergers, acquisitions, and international transactions. Effective communication and collaboration are essential, as tax strategists help interpret complex regulations and ensure compliance while identifying opportunities for savings and risk mitigation. These collaborations help organizations make informed financial decisions and maintain a strong compliance posture.

We are seeking an experienced, licensed CPA or Tax Attorney with deep tax knowledge who is ready to move beyond the traditional public accounting or legal practice model. This is a client-facing role for a professional who thrives on working directly with entrepreneurs and business owners to help them keep more of what they earn.

Role:

The Tax Strategist is responsible for delivering high-impact tax advisory services that help entrepreneurs and business owners minimize tax liability and build long-term financial success. This role is centered around proactive strategy, direct client consultation, and translating complex tax concepts into actionable, real-world solutions.

This individual serves as a trusted advisor; guiding clients through strategic tax planning, identifying savings opportunities, and creating customized strategies tailored to each clientโ€™s unique financial and business landscape.

Responsibilities:

    • Meet one-on-one with entrepreneurs and business owners to evaluate their tax position, identify opportunities for savings, and develop tailored tax strategies.
  • Proactive Strategy Development
    • Analyze client business structures, income streams, and financial goals to design forward-looking tax strategies that generate measurable results.
  • Client Education & Guidance
    • Clearly explain complex tax concepts and strategies, ensuring clients understand their options and feel confident in their financial decisions.
  • Webinar Participation
    • Contribute to Company-hosted tax strategy webinars by answering client questions and providing expert guidance on tax planning techniques.
  • Internal Collaboration
    • Partner with product, sales, and fulfillment teams to align tax strategies with Company services to enable a seamless client experience.
  • Ongoing Client Support
    • Maintain long-term client relationships, adapting strategies as tax laws evolve and as client businesses grow and change.

Accountabilities:

  • Client Impact & Results
    • Deliver clear, actionable tax strategies that result in measurable tax savings and improved financial outcomes for clients
  • Strategic Accuracy & Compliance
    • Ensure all recommendations align with current tax laws and regulations while maximizing client benefit.
  • Client Experience Ownership
    • Take full ownership of the client relationship, providing consistent, high-quality advisory support throughout the year.
  • Collaboration & Alignment
    • Work effectively across departments to ensure strategy execution aligns with broader Company offerings and client needs.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Stay current on tax law changes, proactively refining strategies and approaches to deliver best-in-class advisory services.
  • Organization & Execution
    • Maintain strong systems and processes to manage client interactions, strategies, and follow-ups efficiently and effectively.
