Executive Leadership Opportunity โ€“ Nonprofit Tax


A nationally recognized Top 100 public accounting firm based in Ohio is seeking an accomplished Director or Partner-level leader to oversee and expand its Nonprofit Tax Services practice.

This role requires a proven leader who has directly managed or overseen a Nonprofit/Exempt Organization Tax department or practice area within a public accounting firm. The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong people leadership skills, and a demonstrated ability to drive growth and operational excellence.

Position Overview:

The Director/Partner will have full leadership responsibility for the firmโ€™s Nonprofit Tax department, including strategy, quality control, talent development, and revenue growth.

This is not solely a technical role โ€” it is a practice leadership position.


Key Responsibilities:

Department Leadership

  • Oversee all operations of the Nonprofit Tax department
  • Manage workflow, staffing, quality control, and profitability
  • Establish best practices, processes, and technical standards
  • Lead and develop managers, seniors, and staff
  • Drive recruiting and retention strategy

Technical Oversight

  • Provide final technical review of complex engagements, including:
  • Form 990 series
  • UBIT matters
  • Public charity and private foundation compliance
  • Intermediate sanctions and governance issues
  • Multi-state compliance matters
  • Serve as the firmโ€™s subject matter expert on exempt organization tax matters
  • Oversee IRS examination support and client representation

Strategic Growth & Business Development

  • Develop and execute a strategic growth plan for the nonprofit tax practice
  • Expand market presence throughout Ohio
  • Cultivate relationships within the nonprofit community
  • Collaborate with Audit and Advisory teams to drive cross-selling opportunities
  • Contribute to firm-wide strategic initiatives

Client Leadership

  • Serve as lead relationship partner/advisor to key nonprofit clients
  • Present to executive leadership and boards
  • Provide forward-looking tax planning and risk advisory services


Required Qualifications

  • Active CPA required
  • 12+ years of public accounting experience
  • Significant concentration in nonprofit/exempt organization taxation
  • Direct experience overseeing or managing a Nonprofit Tax department or practice line
  • Demonstrated success supervising managers and leading multi-level teams
  • Proven ability to drive revenue growth and manage profitability
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills
