Job description

Job Summary: The TBS Manager is responsible for the efficient, accurate, complete and timely preparation of all client tax returns. Advanced technical skills in a variety of tax and accounting areas, along with well-developed and applied management and supervisory skills are required. The TBS Manager supports the Firmโ€™s goals and values through all professional communications and the maintenance of positive working relationships. This is an evergreen job posting. We continuously accept applications for this role to build a pipeline of qualified candidates for future openings.
Essential Functions:
  • A role model who demonstrates consistent integrity within the professional environment and provides the example for Staff to learn from and model for their own success.
  • Performs technical tax review and approval of all tax returns of any complexity.
  • Assumes full responsibility for larger tax returns and delegates to the various tax preparers as necessary.
  • Delegates and manages tax research projects to achieve an accurate and efficient product.
  • Participates actively in client meetings and tax planning efforts to assist the A amp;A department with larger clients.
  • Acts as a resource for tax preparers and Audit team members on specific tax issues and/or questions.
  • Participates actively in client meetings and tax planning efforts with larger clients.
  • Assumes tax preparation responsibility for the more complex business returns.
  • Orchestrates and leads periodic meetings (if a Director is not in place) during busy season with TBS Partners and Associates.
  • Supervisors tax team members and provides on-the-job training.
  • Works to develop responsible, trained staff by assisting in recruiting, performance evaluations, developing training aids, and acting as an instructor in professional development programs.
  • Assumes responsibility for smooth flow of tax returns through the tax preparation system to assure accurate, complete and timely preparation and delivery of all clientsโ€™ tax returns.
  • Possesses a complete knowledge of the firmโ€™s philosophy and its opinions on tax matters.
  • Maintains a knowledge of general economic and political trends of possible tax or other legislation that could affect the business climate.
Other Functions:
  • Prepares other reports and projects as requested from time to time by the Partners and/or Directors.
  • Researches and evaluates tax preparation and research software for recommendation to the Partners.
  • Develops personal priority goals and adheres to the goals.
  • Develops along with the Partners and Directors the teamโ€™s business plan goals for the year.
  • Activity participates in community involvement including leadership roles on boards and/or service organizations.
  • Participates with Partners in marketing efforts, including proposal development and prospect calls.
  • Actively participates in firmโ€™s practice development efforts through involvement with referral sources, community and industry activities.
  • Manages a group of TBS associates, including their career development, training and professional development, productivity and performance.
  • Evaluates the performance of TBS associates and provides verbal and written feedback regularly.
  • Proactively mentors and develops the technical and business development skills of TBS team members.
  • May participate in annual review process of team members.
  • Participates in other administrative activities or other duties as requested by the Partners and/or Directors.

  • TBS Director depending on performance metrics and Firm need. Minimum of 3-5 years in manager role before advancement.
