Job description

General Definition:

  • Ensures the safety and security of customers and employees, protects property and maintains order in a courteous, attentive, and informative manner.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points.
  • Prevents losses and damage by responding to and reporting unusual incidents or occurrences in order to minimize or deter hazardous or dangerous situations. Takes immediate and appropriate action to respond to these occurrences.
  • Assists Sergeant in enforcing security regulations, participates in surveillance activities, including apprehending violators and disruptive patrons as directed in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Checks and verifies all doors are secured.
  • Inspects for fire hazards or other general hazards and informs Sergeant(s) of such.
  • Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures as needed.
  • Maintains contact with management and dispatch using telephone, radio and other electronic equipment.
  • Takes appropriate action and renders first aid in emergencies such as accident, fire and illness.
  • Interacts with the general public in a friendly, courteous and informative manner.
  • Assists patrons and employees with questions, problems and concerns.
  • Maintains poise and self-control under stress and in emergency situations. Acts quickly and appropriately to notify immediate supervisor and/or dispatch of the emergency situation. Emergencies may include, but are not limited to, fire, medical, bomb threat, or other disturbances.
  • Follows safety policies and procedures in accordance with company standards and state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Obtains first aid, CPR, and AED certification as scheduled, including any additional emergency medical training in accordance with job responsibilities and operational requirements.
  • Attends departmental staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Attends all emergency preparedness, safety training as scheduled. Disseminates information and assignments as needed.
  • Meets and maintains licensing criteria of the Texas Commission on Private Security and the Texas Racing Commission.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and high integrity.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Wears and maintains uniform and equipment assigned according to Lone Star Park requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or 1 years related experience and/or training; or combination.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Some experience in protective service, military security or similar work preferred, but not required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to act quickly and intelligently in emergency situations.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to express oneself clearly orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team when required;
  • Ability to obtain pertinent information to compile a detailed and cohesive written report.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ethical work habits and high integrity.
  • Working knowledge and skill in the use of self-defense and controlling uncooperative subjects.
  • Ability to work effectively under highly stressful conditions.
  • Ability to apply force in accordance with department policies/procedures.
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy when dealing with people in sensitive situations.
  • Knowledge of basic fire prevention and control techniques.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend effectively in English. Bilingual skills helpful.
  • Ability to effectively operate a variety of communications equipment, call numbers, and emergency signals and operate security alarm systems.
  • Ability to apply first responder techniques in performing emergency first aid (e.g. triage, CPR, etc.).
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and standard office equipment to perform simple administrative tasks.

Training:

  • One (1) year experience as a Security Officer, military police officer or law enforcement officer involving public contact.

Licenses/Certifications/Other:

  • Must be able to pass a background check and receive a license or permit from any Regulatory Agency, if applicable to perform the essential job functions
  • Texas Racing Commission License (TXRC)
  • Texas Commission of Private Security (TCPS)
  • Valid Driver License
