Job description

Sharpe Engineering & Equipment is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer – Industrial Systems to support the design, development, and execution of critical mechanical utility systems for industrial and food & beverage processing environments.

This hands-on engineering role will focus on boiler systems, steam distribution, hot water systems, and glycol-based cooling systems, taking projects from concept through design, equipment specification, installation, and commissioning. You’ll play a key role in delivering reliable, efficient, and high-performing systems that support complex operations.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with internal engineering teams, project managers, vendors, and clients—helping bring technically sound, practical solutions to life while supporting Sharpe’s commitment to quality and operational excellence.

Industrial Mechanical System Design (Primary Focus)

  • Design and support industrial boiler systems, steam and condensate return systems, hot water heating systems, and glycol-based cooling systems
  • Perform load calculations, heat transfer analysis, equipment sizing, and pump and piping design
  • Prepare PFDs, P&IDs, system layouts, and equipment specifications
  • Assist in selecting boilers, heat exchangers, pumps, expansion tanks, controls, and related components, preferred
  • Develop designs that prioritize reliability, serviceability, energy efficiency, and long-term performance

Project Execution & Technical Support

  • Execute engineering tasks aligned with project scope, schedule, and budget of systems
  • Prepare and review equipment specifications and vendor submittals of systems
  • Provide technical problem-solving and design recommendations
  • Support commissioning, field testing, troubleshooting, and installation activities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams

Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure compliance with ASME, NFPA, and applicable mechanical and industrial standards
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering standards and workflows
  • Maintain accurate documentation and revision control

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering required
  • Experience in designing industrial boiler systems, steam/hydronic systems, or glycol cooling systems
  • Experience in industrial or manufacturing environments preferred
  • EIT certification preferred; PE license is a plus

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of steam generation, hydronic heating, and glycol-based systems
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Ability to develop and review PFDs and P&IDs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and engineering judgment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
