Job description

Candidate must be able to interview in person at the Pascagoula, Mississippi facility

Pay:
Day Shift: $48.00
Night Shift: $49.00
Sign-On Bonus: $1000

First-Class Pipefitter (Journeyman Pipefitter), is responsible for fitting pipe consisting of various materials such as steel, galvanized, copper, copper-nickel and stainless along with the appropriate valves and fittings, utilizing various tools and equipment in accordance with drawing, arrangements and blueprints. Production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with most every position in the shipyard, a Pipefitter may be required to work either day or night dependent upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time.

Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum 5+ Yrs. trade experience
  • Basic math, reading and comprehension skills
  • Knowledge of the layout, fit-up, fabrication and installation of pipe, flanges and valves
  • Read and interpret trade drawings and/or blueprints utilizing both metric and standard measurements
Preferred Qualifications
  • 6+ Yrs. marine, shipbuilding and construction experience
  • Knowledge of setting and erecting units with proficiency in the use of Datum Lines
  • Familiarity with fit-up, alignment tolerances and advanced blueprint reading skills
Basic Qualification/Testing:
  • Possess basic reading and writing skills along with addition and subtraction skills
  • Ability to read a tape measure both standard and metric and use a hand torch
  • Have basic understanding of fitting tools and their operation such as Jacks, Come-A-Longs and Chain Falls, along with how to use a grinder.
  • Knowledge of piping systems arrangements including valves and piping symbols and components along with their function
  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and the installation and removal of blinds in systems for testing
  • Capable of using pressure gages and thermometers
  • Ability to set up and flush all piping systems in addition to performing air and hydrostatic pressure tests on all systems using varying degrees of pressure
  • Capable of restoring system to operating condition upon completion of flushing and testing
  • Perform Sil-Braze process on pipe up to 2
  • Knowledge of the operation of chop saws and hacksaws
  • Familiar with pipe sizes, wall schedules, material types, gaskets and fasteners
  • Capable of fabricating flushing jumpers
  • Familiar with Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Knowledge of piping drawings, diagrams and pipefitters handbook used in establishing testing or flushing boundaries.
Preferred Experience:
  • Capable of setting up and performing flushing and testing operations on all type of piping systems to include setting boundaries and preparing documentation required for testing and flushing, troubleshooting problems, making necessary repairs to include Sil-Brazing all sizes of pipe
  • Perform call outs with customers.
  • Hook up and restore system in accordance with (IAW) system drawings and test procedures.
  • Test is 150 questions, must speak and have a good understanding of the English language
  • Candidates should bring a Blue Book with them.

All employees are expected to adhere to the companys safety policies to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. This role involves working under extreme hot or cold conditions and requires the physical ability to stand for the entire shift, use hands for various tasks, ascend stairs, balance, stoop,kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Team members must occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close, distant, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
