Job description

Administrative Support Staff

The mission of the South Carolina Department of Education is to serve students, support teachers, empower parents, and engage the community so that every student graduates prepared to reach their full potential.

Job Purpose:

Will perform administrative support duties following established office procedures in support of the adult education and office leadership within the Office of Career Readiness.

Responsibilities:

Answers and responds to phone and email inquiries. Open and distribute mail. Prepare travel requests and secure car rentals for assigned staff. Develop travel reimbursement documentation for assigned staff.

Create and monitor ART routings and shopping carts. Responsible for bill paying. Assists with ordering office supplies and materials as needed. Develop and implement application.

Assist the office with inventorying and monitoring equipment purchases. Prepare print orders for the department's internal print shop – collate and assemble printed projects upon request. Operate as an office backup for this task. Assist with the onboarding of personnel employed by the Office. Assists with the development, maintenance and monitoring of internal office procedures. Serves as liaison responsible for disseminating current office/department policies and procedures. Performs additional duties assigned by office leadership.

This position is located in the Office of Career Readiness.

A high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience. A high school diploma and two (2) years of secretarial experience; or an associate degree in secretarial science or related field. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment while demonstrating sound judgement and making timely, effective decisions.
