Job description

Job Type: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Reports to: Voter Registration Manager

Location: Philadelphia

Commitment: Temporary, with an immediate need beginning August and concluding in October.

About the Organization:

The Asian American Community Fund of PA (AACFPA) is the first-ever statewide nonpartisan civic engagement organization directly advocating for the needs of Asian Pacific Islanders in PA. Built by Asian American community leaders across the state with a collective 50 years of experience advocating for our people, we build long-term political power and win justice for our communities.

The AAPI PA Power Caucus, a project of the Asian American Community Fund of PA, is the first and only statewide Asian American civic engagement and power building coalition in Pennsylvania. Formed in 2019 as a nonpartisan 501c3 table, now comprised of 20 Asian American nonprofits representing Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, South Asian, Muslim, Filipino, and LGBTQ+ organizations, we have since been building our collective power and developing our API Platform for PA.

This position is shared with our sibling entity, the Asian Pacific Islander Political Alliance (API PA), a separate 501(c)4, to whom the employee may also report and provide services consistent with the below duties on occasion.

The Work You'd Be A Part Of:

AACFPA will be launching a Voter Registration program from August 2026 to October 2026 with the goals of registering eligible voters in Asian American communities in Pennsylvania.

AACFPA will provide training and materials, including PPE as appropriate. We are looking to invest in our canvassers by engaging them in meaningful work, giving them constructive feedback, and exposing them to a variety of opportunities in the policy / advocacy space. We're looking for individuals who are passionate about working towards engaging underrepresented communities in the electoral process.

Individuals who are interested in participating in building political power for Asians and Pacific Islanders in Pennsylvania and learning the skills of canvassing but are unable to commit the time required for a paid position are encouraged to contact us about other opportunities.

Your Day-to-Day Work (Essential Functions):

  • Tabling and Street Canvassing: you will engage in registering voters in target geography and at community events
  • Tracking registrations and recording data

  • Conversational fluency in English

Note that AACFPA currently requires all staff placed in this role to be vaccinated against COVID-19, including maintenance of appropriate booster shots, unless they are granted an accommodation by AACFPA. Employees will be required to demonstrate compliance with this requirement prior to their first day as a condition of their terms of employment.

Necessary Skills

  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills, specifically looking for people who are outgoing and willing to talk to strangers about political issues
  • Able to work independently
  • Personal knowledge of and/or experience working with Asian American communities
  • Ability to work with diverse staff
  • Understanding of and commitment to AACFPA's values, or strong willingness to learn
  • Ability to lead check-ins and debriefs with other canvassers with the guidance of VR Manager
