Taproom information

What is a taproom?

A taproom is a dedicated space, usually attached to a brewery, where customers can sample and purchase the brewery's beers directly from the source. Taprooms often feature a rotating selection of beers on tap, sometimes including limited releases or experimental brews not available elsewhere. They provide a casual setting for guests to enjoy fresh beer, often accompanied by food trucks, live music, or other events. Taprooms are a key part of many craft breweries, helping to build community and foster direct connections with customers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a taproom manager?

To thrive as a Taproom Manager, you need strong customer service, inventory management, and hospitality skills, often supported by experience in food and beverage or bar management. Familiarity with POS systems, beverage dispensing equipment, and relevant certifications such as ServSafe are typically required. Excellent communication, leadership, and multitasking abilities help create a welcoming environment and manage staff effectively. These skills are crucial for delivering a positive guest experience, maintaining operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

What are some common challenges faced by taproom staff, and how can they be managed effectively?

Taproom staff often encounter challenges such as managing high customer volumes during peak hours, maintaining product knowledge across a rotating selection of beers, and ensuring compliance with alcohol service regulations. Effective communication with both the brewing team and customers is essential to provide accurate information and a positive experience. Regular training, teamwork, and a proactive attitude toward customer service help taproom staff navigate these challenges while fostering a welcoming atmosphere.

About MadTree
Founded in 2013, MadTree is an award-winning brewery that's rooted in Cincinnati and planted in purpose. Driven to craft great beer - but more importantly - build a business dedicated to doing good, MadTree protects and celebrates nature while reducing impact on the environment. MadTree is a B Corp certified company and proud member of 1% for the Planet with a commitment to donate 1% of sales to local, sustainable nonprofits. MadTree strives to create warm and welcoming experiences, exceed expectations, and most importantly, plant a better community. They put purpose in every pour, and raise a glass to doing things differently.
About Oakley Taproom
The Oakley Taproom is MadTree's flagship location and the heart of our company. It's the place where community, craft, and culture come together.
Transforming a former paperboard recycling facility and airplane hangar into a 50,000 sq. ft. brewery and beer destination, our Oakley Taproom opened in early 2017. As craft beer was booming in Cincinnati and beyond, the expansion positioned MadTree as a major force in the local beer community and marked our evolution from a beloved neighborhood brewery into one of the region's most iconic craft beer destinations. Today, our Oakley Taproom serves as the home of our beer production, our corporate offices, and the teams who help bring our purpose to life every single day.
Nestled in the heart of Oakley, the space was intentionally designed to be a true neighborhood gathering place where people can connect, celebrate, and feel a sense of belonging. Featuring expansive indoor spaces, a massive beer garden and patio, a signature living wall, large private event venues, and year-round programming, the Taproom creates energy and experiences that go far beyond simply serving beer.
As the flagship of the MadTree brand, the Taproom carries forward our commitment to warm hospitality, thoughtful experiences, and creating spaces where community thrives. More than a brewery or taproom, this is the living heartbeat of MadTree; a place built to gather, celebrate, and grow alongside the community that helped make us who we are.
MadTree is committed to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workforce that inspires madness while being rooted in purpose. We offer a competitive compensation package plus great benefits like subsidized health insurance, a retirement plan with a match, free mental health therapy visits, paid time off, and many other great perks.
