Job description

Job Title:ย Afterschool Assistant Site Coordinator

FLSA Status:ย Non-exempt

Classification:ย Part-time Regular

Hours:ย Weekdays 12:30 PM - 6:30 PM with some flexibility required

Pay Rate:ย $16.41/hour

This is a part-time regular position working up to an average of 24 hours per week annually in an ongoing capacity, pending individual performance. Work schedules mayย varyย week to week, month to month, or seasonally based on operational needs.ย 

About the role:

We are seeking a part-time Afterschool Assistant Coordinator, that reports directly to the Afterschool Site Coordinator. The afterschool programs runs for 12 months. The Afterschool Assistant Site Coordinator will assist the Afterschool Site Coordinator and facilitate the afterschool staff by providing academic and enrichment for students ages five to twelve.

Duties and Responsibilitiesย (include but not limited to):

  • Establish programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and provides active STEM learning activities.

  • Create a club environment that facilitates the achievement of youth development outcomes and optimizes youth needs, motivation, and engagement.

  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment.

  • Ensure that facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained.

  • Plan, develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate programs, services, and activities.

  • Establish a cooperative learning environment to build student leadership and community.

  • Update and maintain skills in use of current technology and information management systems.

  • Develop partnerships with parents, community leaders and organizations.

  • Develop and maintain public relations.

  • Increase the visibility, services and activities of program through completion of parent, teacher and student surveys.

  • Supervise the performance of the youth and staff members.

  • Provide direct supervision to volunteers and youth staff.

  • Organize off site visits to community partners and or other organizations.

  • Assist coordinator in daily contact with staff, including full-time, part-time, program and volunteers, to discuss issues, challenges and opportunities.

  • Maintain daily contact with Afterschool Site Coordinator.

  • Establish a sense of community to dissolve conflict situations with youth and parents.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Two-year college degree or equivalent expertise from an accredited college in related area/areas of youth development required. Bachelors Degree preferred.

  • Experience working closely with youth, parents, teachers, and staff.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles related to development of youth between 5 and 12 years of age, group leadership skills, and an understanding of group dynamics.

  • CPR and first aid certifications preferred.

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

  • Ability to maintain a high energy level.

  • Ability to be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.

  • Ability to regularly speak clearly and hear the spoken word.

  • Communication: Informing, listening, presenting, coaching, leading by example, and documentation.

  • Decision Making: Analyzing and program management.

  • Developing Organizational Talent: Delegating.

  • Leadership: Team Building and staff training.

  • Personal Initiative: Organizational awareness, striving for excellence, professional development, feedback from relevant people, undertake career development activities, commitment to youth development.

  • Planning: Action planning, organizing, and monitoring.

  • Relationship: Teamwork, and maintaining a professional environment.

  • Safety, Health and Environment: Supporting a safe environment, basic first aid and CPR certified.

Candidates might be (depending on position) required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, negative skin tuberculosis test, and possess a valid drivers license with a good history.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Will sometimes work extended/odd hours including weekends, holidays and some night programs.

  • Must be able to walk long distances across the zoo.

  • Will primarily work in a school setting, indoors and outside.

  • Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, twist, reach above head and climb.

  • Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds using safe and proper lifting methods.
