Job description

Summary

New York, NY. A global law firm is seeking a Legal Talent Management Associate Director to support the Capital Markets group within the Corporate Department with the overall administration of the department, talent management, staffing, lateral integration, the evaluation process and strategic plans for the department. This is an Exempt role that reports into the Legal Talent Management Director – Corporate and is based in the New York office. This role is on a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with Capital Markets group leadership on all aspects of department administration, including driving strategic talent development, retention initiatives, and cultivation of firm culture.
  • Leverage financial reporting, data analytics, and market benchmarking to identify growth opportunities and optimize associate productivity; collaborate closely with assigning partners to align staffing and utilization with departmental objectives.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to leadership and the Talent Management team in the design, implementation, and enforcement of firm policies and forward‑looking departmental initiatives.
  • Direct the resolution of complex personnel matters, including leaves of absence, client secondments, office transfers, and alternative work arrangements.
  • Lead the annual evaluation process for income partners, associates, and counsel in coordination with the Legal Talent Management — Operations team, ensuring consistent follow‑through on identified performance issues and development plans.
  • Cultivate trusted relationships with Capital Markets attorneys at all levels, serving as a key resource and confidential sounding board on matters of professional growth, interpersonal dynamics, morale, and overall firm experience.
  • Guide the integration and onboarding of lateral attorneys to ensure a seamless and productive transition into the department and its practice culture.
  • Manage the department’s promotion pipeline, including oversight of the annual promotion process and readiness assessments for the group.
  • Conduct exit interviews with departing Investment Funds associates; synthesize and analyze attrition data to identify trends and inform retention strategies.
  • Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of Capital Markets department meetings, retreats, and events.
  • Serve as a cross‑functional liaison with Finance, Recruiting, Professional Development & Training, Career Development, Inclusion, and Business Development to advance departmental priorities and ensure alignment with firm‑wide objectives.
  • Other projects and initiatives as needed at the direction of department leadership.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree required, J.D. strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressive experience in a large law firm environment, with experience in practice group management, talent management, or associate development leadership.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with attorneys and staff throughout the Firm.
  • Highly organized and self‑directed approach to work with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated success in prioritizing, managing multiple projects, and thriving in a fast‑paced environment with intense client service orientation.
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functional collaboration, influence without direct authority, and drive consensus among diverse stakeholders.
  • A proactive, solutions‑oriented mindset with a record of identifying operational inefficiencies and implementing creative, practical improvements.
  • Demonstrated experience exercising sound judgment and maintaining the highest degree of discretion with respect to confidential personnel matters and sensitive firm information.
Compensation
  • $180,000.00-$220,000.00 annually plus bonus.
