Rate of Pay: $25.95/hour + DOE

Summary
The Thrift Store Senior Associate supports the Store Manager and Store Supervisor to assure that the stores are run efficiently, profitable and safely. Working with the Manager and Supervisor, the Retail Senior Associate assists with coordinating the staff to address daily store up keep, stocking the store, assisting customers and pricing and processing donations.

The Thrift Store Senior Associate assures that the store business is conducted in an ethical manner consistent with the values of Tahoe Forest Hospice and the Tahoe Forest Hospital District.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works as an effective member of the Tahoe Forest Hospice Team following the direction of the manager, supervisor.
  • Works as Shift Lead running the store in the absence of the Manager or Supervisor.
  • Responsible for receiving, processing and pricing donations: sorts through donations working to identify what can be sold or recycled and what should be discarded.
  • Uses a wealth of retail knowledge to price all product that comes through the store.
  • Responsible for assisting Associates and with processing decisions, reviewing their processing decisions to encourage better sorting.
  • Uses retail and product knowledge to identify items that require special handling.
  • Uses the internet to determine reasonable retail prices.
  • Shares information gained from research with other staff to increase their knowledge.
  • Processes and prices books as they are received.
  • Works with management to develop criteria for off season product holds.
  • Identifies and sets aside off season product.
  • Packs up this product marking it for the appropriate season.
  • Works with management to determine how best to handle seasonal products including: limit on product, direction on what to pack, timing on when to sell seasonal products.ย 
  • Stocks floor identifying problem areas. Works independently to address concerns and improve the sales floor to increase customer satisfaction.
  • Regularly vacuums and dusts stores. Identifies other areas of store upkeep that need addressing.
  • Works to see that work stations are kept clean and organized.
  • Works assigned schedule, including weekends and holidays. May work extra shifts to cover sick days or vacations.
  • Works in both thrift locations and Gift Tree as needed per schedule.
  • Assists management with buying and merchandising decisions in Gift Tree.
  • Answers phone calls in a courteous manner, offering information as directed.
  • Handles difficult questions and calls.
  • Runs the cash register.
  • Assists with loading and unloading of furniture and donations.
  • Discards garbage and recycle, including bags of clothing and shoes. Regularly stuffs the recycle bin.
  • Supports the mission of Tahoe Forest Hospice in interactions with customers and volunteers.
  • Clearly explains the mission of the Tahoe Forest Hospice and the Hospice Thrift Store to customers.
  • Appropriately directs inquiries for Hospice services to Hospice personnel.
  • Demonstrates System Values in Performance and behavior.
  • Complies with System policies and procedures.
