Tactical Officers are specialized security officers with advanced training in de-escalation techniques, advanced non-lethal defensive systems, defensive tactics, and critical thinking skills.

MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR UPCOMING PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT TEST! Successful candidates will also be physically fit and able to maintain sufficient physical fitness to successfully pass the upcoming Cooper Institute Physical Fitness Assessment Test (1.5-mile run, push-ups, sit-ups, vertical jump, and 300-meter run) before selection to be interviewed and our Tactical Officer Certification Course. You will take this assessment on a bi-annual basis to retain employment in the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU).

This team works 3 12-hour shifts (for both days and nights) 6 - 6. Every Wednesday is a part of your 40 hour/week and is from 2PM - 6PM for training. There is NO set schedule for Tactical Officers, your shift and location are based on business needs

Candidates must have at least 3 YOE as LEO or Military service noted on work history. Must meet min quals, no exceptions.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position will be assigned primarily to the Emergency Department and will serve as the first responder to the most violent and dangerous security incidents occurring throughout the facility and the campus. The Tactical Officer will be responsible for directing the security response the violent incidents. The Tactical Officer will be the primary liaison with law enforcement during critical incidences. This position will assist with patrol functions across the campus; the welfare, security and safety of staff, visitors, and patients as well as investigations of critical incidents.


CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Apprehends suspects in cases where state Statues provide it is legal to do so in cases of conflict, escalation or unauthorized entry into buildings and work areas, malicious mischief, or other violations. Conducts investigations and prepares investigative reports.
2. Serves as the primary point of contact with law enforcement during critical incidents.
3. Monitors and assesses situations to determine the most appropriate response. Utilizes critical thinking skills in emergency and stressful situations.
4. Utilizes verbal de-escalation techniques and advance workplace violence mitigation skills and tactical skills in security, emergency and conflict situations.
5. Investigates and completes written reports of complaints, critical security incidents and unusual activities involving patients, employees and visitors; submits all reports to Tactical Operation Unit leadership by the end of the shift in which the incident occurs. Maintain an accurate log of all relevant security activities during each shift.
6. Escorts patients, visitors and employees as needed. Assists medical staff in restraining and mitigating aggressive patients.
7. Enforces security rules and regulations, conduct interior and exterior patrols on foot or in a vehicle, provide quick, calm, effective communication/direction in emergency situations, and prepare concise incident reports. Follow instructions and safe work practices. Act as a point of contact for other Security Officers as needed.
8. Reports directly to Tactical Operation Unit leader. This position interacts internally with staff, physicians, visitors, volunteers and patients. This position interacts externally with law enforcement agencies and emergency service agencies. The position is system wide, and officers may be assigned/reassigned to work at any facility as Business needs require.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
Must possess strong knowledge and understanding of security as normally obtained by a minimum of three years of law enforcement or military experience or seven years of hospital security experience. Requires successful completion of Banner Health's Tactical Officer Academy upon hire. Failure of Banner Health's Tactical Officer Academy will result in termination. Requires ability to demonstrate and successfully use all required competencies annually. Must possess interpersonal skills and be customer service oriented in all contacts with patients, visitors and staff. Requires advanced critical thinking, monitoring skills and ability to quickly assess situations and determine appropriate response in escalated conflict, security and emergency situations. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform physical requirements of the position.

Once hired the Tactical Operation Unit Physical Fitness test will be conducted on a bi-annual basis and employees must successfully meet the requirements to remain in their role.

Employees must possess a Fingerprint Clearance Card within 60 days of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital must have a fingerprint clearance card at time of hire and must sign a Criminal History Affidavit upon hire.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
