Job description

Halvik Corp delivers a wide range of services to 13 executive agencies and 15 independent agencies. Halvik is a highly successful WOB business with more than 50 prime contracts and 500+ professionals delivering Digital Services, Advanced Analytics, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Cyber Security and Cutting-Edge Technology across the US Government. Be a part of something special!
Position Overview
Halvik is seeking BI Developers to support a high-visibility federal data modernization program at the U.S. Department of Transportation. This program is migrating a large-scale legacy reporting environment - comprising several thousand reports - from Oracle Data Warehouse / OBIEE into Tableau dashboards connected to a Databricks Lakehouse platform.
This is a hands-on execution role within a high-volume report conversion effort. The BI Developer will convert legacy reports into Tableau workbooks and dashboards by following an established, repeatable conversion process. The BI Developer will perform the conversion following documented step-by-step procedures, with the work adhering to defined templates and quality standards established by the senior technical lead.
The ideal candidate has foundational Tableau development skills, solid SQL proficiency, comfort working with AI-assisted development tools, attention to detail, and the ability to execute a defined process consistently and at volume. This role offers significant exposure to Databricks, modern cloud data platforms, and AI-augmented development workflows.
Core Responsibilities
Execute the established report conversion process - either refining pre-generated Tableau report scaffolds or performing manual conversion following documented procedures.
  • Build, modify, and publish Tableau workbooks, dashboards, calculated fields, filters, and parameters following established templates and naming conventions.
  • Apply performance best practices (context filters, extract optimization, data source filters) under senior developer guidance.
  • Handle template-conforming reports independently. Escalate complex reports to the Senior BI Developer for input and guidance.
  • Validate converted report outputs, confirm source-to-target fidelity, and troubleshoot discrepancies.
  • Perform QA self-checks using established validation checklists.
  • Navigate Databricks workspace to locate tables, review schemas, and understand how the medallion architecture feeds Tableau data sources.
  • Escalate data-layer issues such as schema changes, transformation errors to Data Engineers with clear documentation of the issue and its report impact.
  • Use approved AI/LLM tools to accelerate SQL writing, documentation, data exploration, and troubleshooting.
  • Document report logic, conversion decisions, validation results, and discrepancies clearly and consistently in project tracking tools.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, reviews, retrospectives) and collaborate with QA, Data Engineers, Business Analysts, and Project Manager to maintain delivery velocity.

Minimum Requirements
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
  • 1-3 years of hands-on Tableau development experience, including dashboards, calculated fields, filters, parameters, and data source connections. Academic project experience considered for candidates with strong fundamentals.
  • Solid SQL skills. Comfortable writing validation queries against large datasets.
  • Understanding of data warehouse concepts - dimensional models, fact and dimension tables, data marts, ETL concepts.
  • Exposure to Databricks, Spark SQL, or comparable cloud data platforms. Hands-on experience preferred; conceptual understanding with willingness to learn quickly is acceptable.
  • Comfort using AI/LLM tools in a professional or academic context - code generation, data analysis, or similar applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established processes consistently across high-volume work.
  • Effective working in Agile team environments.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain Public Trust security clearance.

Preferred Expertise
Experience with BI platform migrations or report conversion projects of any scale.
  • Familiarity with Tableau Server publishing, permissions, and data source management.
  • Python fundamentals - scripting, data manipulation, or automation.
  • Experience with data validation, data profiling, or data quality assessment.
  • Familiarity with legacy BI platforms (OBIEE, Cognos, SSRS, or similar) - useful for understanding source reports, but not required.
  • Experience working in a federal government IT environment or on government contracts.
  • Familiarity with Databricks Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, or Lakehouse architecture concepts.

Halvik offers a competitive full benefits package including:
Company-supported medical, dental, vision, life, STD, and LTD insurance
Benefits include 11 federal holidays and PTO
Eligible employees may receive performance-based incentives in recognition of individual and/or team achievements.
401(k) with company matching
