While both roles operate within casinos and require similar licenses, Table Games staff typically have broader responsibilities across multiple game types, whereas Card Dealers specialize in card-based games.

What is a table game?

Table games are casino games played on a table and usually operated by one or more live dealers. Common examples include blackjack, poker, roulette, craps, and baccarat. These games typically involve cards, dice, or spinning wheels, and players compete against the house or each other. Table games are popular for their social interaction, strategic elements, and variety of betting options. They are a staple in most casinos worldwide.

What are the typical challenges faced by table games dealers, and how can they be managed effectively?

Table Games Dealers often encounter challenges such as maintaining concentration during long shifts, handling difficult or emotional players, and ensuring strict adherence to gaming regulations. Successfully managing these challenges requires strong interpersonal skills, a keen attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Dealers can benefit from ongoing training, mentorship from experienced colleagues, and regular communication with floor supervisors to address any issues and continue improving their performance.

Do table game dealers make good money?

Table game dealers typically earn an hourly wage that includes a base pay plus tips from players, which can significantly increase overall earnings. In many cases, experienced dealers working in busy casinos can make a competitive income, with some earning over $20 per hour including tips. Earnings depend on location, casino size, and individual skill level, and the job often requires certification and good customer service skills.

How to become a table games dealer?

To become a table games dealer, you typically need to complete a dealer training program that covers game rules, procedures, and customer service skills. Most employers require a high school diploma or equivalent and may require a state gaming license or certification, which involves background checks and testing. Prior experience in customer service or gaming can be beneficial, and dealers often work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
