Job description


Sixense, Inc. is seeking an Instrumentation and Monitoring Engineer out of Torrance, CA to support the deployment and maintenance of structural and geotechnical instrumentation systems. In this hands-on role, you will work closely with the local team to prepare, install, and service a wide range of monitoring equipment in diverse environments. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Summary

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the candidate will perform field and office-based tasks aligned with company policies, standards, and best practices. You’ll also contribute to project success by providing quality control support, observations, and technical recommendations to the project team.

Main role

  • Install and maintain the performance of various geotechnical and structural monitoring instruments following Sixense procedures, including but not limited to datalogging systems and Automatic Motorized Total Stations.
  • Assembling instrumentation and Automatic Data Acquisition Systems (ADAS).
  • Operation of power tools and hand tools (hammer drill, Sawzall, wrenches, etc.)
  • Performing the configuration of the Data Management System.
  • Coordinating and communicating with clients, subcontractors, and others.
  • Provide timely assistance to engineers and fellow technicians as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance and installations, which may involve working at height, on rail systems, or during night shifts.

Health & Safety

  • Actively participate in Sixense’s Health and Safety Program and help foster a positive safety culture.
  • Ensure full understanding of all relevant safety protocols before starting any task.

Other General Responsibilities

  • Communicate equipment needs, performance issues, or field findings to the Supervisor or Project Manager.
  • Occasionally climbing up to ladders and lifting up to 50 lbs. to install or decommission instrumentation.
  • Perform additional duties in the workshop or field as needed.
  • Seek continuous improvement in operational procedures and workflows.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education & Experience

    • BS Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
    • Minimum of 3 years of relevant field experience.
    • Demonstrable experience with the installation and maintenance of geotechnical and structural instruments such as piezometers, inclinometers, extensometers, and total stations.
    • Basic understanding of heavy construction means and methods.
    • Strong collaboration abilities, working effectively with colleagues and within multidisciplinary teams.
    • Strong attention to detail and effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Must be technology-minded, have basic knowledge about instrumentation systems, basic programming, software, low-voltage electrical, and remote measurements.
    • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Travel may be required both locally and nationally.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
