Job description

Job Description BAE Systems is seeking an Engineering Manager to support our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. The ideal candidate will be someone who can lead a team of four to nine engineers toward meeting a set of objectives, d emonstrate the behaviors to effectively communicate, coordinate, collaborate, and work in a visible and proactive manner across organizational boundaries to deliver positive results. This role is fit for someone who can be a highly engaging, team-oriented, problem solving, and self-starting individual able to respond rapidly to a dynamic programmatic environment. As the Engineering Manager for System Integration, your responsibilities span engineering management, personnel management, and customer relationship management including: Engineering Management * Manage execution of engineering capabilities (people, process, tools) and work products (deliverables) in the areas of System Integration policy and process definition. * Ensure the timely development of System Integration products to support issuance of contract deliverables. * Support S ystem Integration activities across the engineering lifecycle, for a complex systems-of-systems. * Identify System Integration assessment characteristics that can be gathered from component level design development and integration event activities for use in system level integration assessments. * Support program leadership in the development of: * Product development schedule to support programmatic milestones associated with Integration deliverables. * Presentations and materials to support subsystem and system level technical reviews. * Presentations and materials to support program reviews. * Identification of technical and programmatic risks, including mitigation plans. * Attending meetings, as necessary, to support tasks above. Some meetings may occur offsite, requiring local travel to Washington, DC or to subsystem development/testing facilities. * Applying Modeling-based Systems Engineering tools to develop digital engineering products. * Continuous monitoring of products and processes to identify opportunities for improvement. Personnel Management * Functional management over a four-to- nine person team to include performance and development objective setting, conduct of semi-annual performance reviews, personnel development and training, annual salary planning, resource planning, balancing workload across personnel, and hiring/onboarding of new personnel. * Assemble, lead, and manage high-performance team focused on delivering engineering products and developing innovative solutions to complex mission and business challenges. Customer Relationship Management * Establish and maintain exceptional relationships with GS-14 level US Navy customers/clients to solve technical problems and implement solutions of high complexity. About BAE Systems and the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) Our organization has supported the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) continually since the program's inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and as the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation's nuclear arsenal its importance to maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The Navy projects this system to be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total life span of more than 120 years. This is a truly unique program and BAE Systems employees on this program understand they are part of an important legacy. Required Education, Experience, & Skills Bachelor of Science degree in Systems, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering Additional skills/experience required: * 6 years' experience supporting systems engineering on large DoD programs * Experience with major weapon system development product lifecycle and technologies * Experience with conducting compatibility analysis of interface requirements * Experience with integration of models, software, and / or hardware * Experience with various engineering tools / languages including PTC Windchill, IBM DOORS, 2D/3D CAD, SysML, and/or MATLAB Simulink * Experience with leading projects involving multiple team members * Experience with presenting project status to management and/or the client * Experience in organizing and hosting meetings involving multiple stakeholders * Willing to travel approximately 10% of the time * Must possess strong organizational, time management, and project management skills * Proficient with PC and MS Office Suite Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills * Experience in managing a team of Engineers * 8 years' experience supporting systems engineering on large DoD programs * Experience with the Navy SSP or TRIDENT programs * Prior experience working in missile weapon systems, space, and/or nuclear fields. * Experience with technical presentations and customer-facing activities at the leadership level. * Demonstrated success partnering with customers to understand critical challenges, shape customer requirements, develop innovative solutions, and manage execution of solutions through implementation * Experience with various engineering tools / languages including PTC Windchill, IBM DOORS, 2D/3D CAD, SysML, and/or MATLAB Simulink * INCOSE ASEP or CSEP certification Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $118095 - $200762 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
