Job description

Description:

RAM Aerospace is a leader in aerospace innovation, powering flight and space exploration with precision solenoids, valves, actuators, and position sensing solutions. Since 1975, we've supported missions like the Space Shuttle and continue to deliver mission-critical components for commercial, defense, and satellite systems. Headquartered in St. George, Utah, our advanced manufacturing facility produces the precision solenoids, valves, and actuators that aerospace programs worldwide depend on. Our Valencia facility extends that capability with specialized manufacturing of LVDTs and RVDTs, critical position sensing devices used across a broad range of aerospace and defense applications. As one of Southern Utah's largest employers, we drive economic growth and offer high-skilled careers in engineering and manufacturing. From both facilities, we build the future of aerospaceโ€”on time, with excellence, and as a team. Join us to work on groundbreaking technology and help shape the future of flight and space exploration. Your career takes off here!

RAM Aerospace's LVDT Intern program is built for engineering students who want more than a summer project. This is a year-round, part-time position designed to fit alongside your academic schedule, giving you sustained, meaningful exposure to the design, analysis, test, and manufacturing of Linear Variable Differential Transformers, the precision position sensing devices that aerospace and defense systems worldwide depend on. You will work directly alongside experienced engineers and technicians, contributing to real work on real hardware across multiple disciplines. By the time you finish school, you will have built a level of hands-on aerospace engineering experience that very few of your peers can match. If you are an engineering student who is eager to learn, ready to contribute, and looking for a role that grows with you through your academic career, this opportunity was built for you.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design & Engineering Support: Assist RAM engineers in the design and development of LVDT components and assemblies. Support CAD modeling, drawing updates, and design documentation using 3D CAD tools, and contribute to design reviews and engineering analysis tasks as your skills and familiarity with the product grow over time.
  • Analysis & Performance Modeling: Support engineering analysis efforts related to LVDT performance, including electromagnetic behavior, dimensional tolerance reviews, and basic mechanical assessments. Learn to apply analytical tools and methods under the guidance of senior engineers, building a working understanding of how design decisions translate into measurable performance outcomes.
  • Test Support & Data Collection: Assist in the setup, execution, and documentation of LVDT performance and functional testing. Operate test equipment under supervision, collect and log test data accurately, and support the analysis and reporting of test results in a format that informs engineering decisions.
  • Manufacturing & Assembly Support: Work alongside technicians in the assembly of LVDT components and subassemblies, learning proper assembly techniques, workmanship standards, and the attention to detail that precision aerospace hardware demands. Support manufacturing operations in a manner that reinforces RAM's quality and FOD prevention standards at all times.
  • Documentation & Continuous Learning: Maintain accurate records of engineering and assembly activities in accordance with RAM's quality management system requirements. Engage actively with the engineers and technicians around you, ask good questions, take ownership of your development, and bring growing capability and initiative to your work with each passing semester.
Requirements:
  • Legal: Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening.
  • ITAR: Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (due to ITAR requirements).
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field required.
  • Minimum sophomore standing required. Junior or senior standing preferred.
  • Basic understanding of electromagnetic or electromechanical principles gained through coursework is a plus.
  • Exposure to 3D CAD software through coursework or personal projects preferred. SolidWorks experience a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic engineering drawings and written assembly procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and genuine commitment to accuracy in both hands-on work and documentation.
  • Ability to commit to a consistent part-time schedule throughout the academic year, with flexibility to increase hours during breaks if desired.
  • Eager to learn, self-motivated, and comfortable working in an active manufacturing and engineering environment alongside experienced professionals.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document work accurately and collaborate effectively with engineers and technicians.

We are committed to creating an environment where our employees can thrive both personally and professionally.
