Job description

MSIG USA continues to grow!

Company Overview:

MSIG USA is the US-based subsidiary ofMS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, Inc., one of the world's top P&C carriers and a global Class 15 insurer, with A+ ratings and a reach that spans 40+ countries and regions. Leveraging our 350-year heritage, MSIG USA brings the financial strength, expertise, and global footprint to offer commercial insurance solutions that address your business's unique risks.

Position Summary

The Product Development Analyst sits on the Product Development team and is responsible for authoring the business requirements for commercial insurance products including forms, rules, and rating plans and handing those requirements off to Technology for coding and implementation across the company's various policy administration systems. The analyst partners with product owners, underwriting, actuarial, state filings, and compliance to define what needs to be built, documents it in clear and testable business requirements, and serves as the business point of contact throughout the build, test, and release cycle. The analyst does not code; rather, the role owns the "what" and the "why," translating product and regulatory intent into specifications that IT and third-party vendors can act on with minimal ambiguity. The role also monitors bureau circulars and state regulatory bulletins so that product requirements keep pace with regulatory change. This is an individual contributor position.

Key Responsibilities

Business Requirement Development: Partner with product owners, underwriting, actuarial, and state filings to capture product intent and translate it into clear, detailed business requirements for commercial insurance products.
Forms, Rules & Rating Specifications: Document form attachment/inference conditions, static versus dynamic (variable-data) forms, dynamic data fields, business rules, and rating logic by writing company and state, so that Technology has an unambiguous specification to build from.
Requirements Documentation & Standards: Develop and maintain requirements using standardized templates and formats keeping documentation current, version-controlled, and consistent across products.
Product Scoping: Complete initial scoping documents estimating form counts, variable/dynamic-data scope, rating impacts, states, and writing companies to provide Technology enough information for early effort sizing before full requirements are finalized.
Requirements Hand-off: Package and hand off finalized business requirements to internal and external Technology teams and third-party vendors for coding and implementation across the various policy administration systems (e.g., Product Decisions/iCenter, PolicyCenter, Solartis, NAPA, and the Underwriting Workbench).
Business Point of Contact: Serve as the business liaison to Technology throughout the build, answering questions, clarifying intent, resolving requirements related issues, and confirming that what is built matches what was specified without stepping into system design or configuration.
Acceptance Validation: As needed, review delivered functionality and support user acceptance testing to validate that forms behave as documented in the requirements.
Circular & Bulletin Monitoring: Monitor bureau circulars (e.g., AAIS/ISO/NCCI) to determine company action and translate impacts into product requirement updates ensuring products remain compliant with applicable laws and standards.
Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate across product owners, Technology delivery leads, actuarial/underwriting, operations, compliance, and external vendors to keep requirements aligned and delivery on schedule.

Skills & Qualifications

Experience: 3-5 years of experience in requirements development, business analysis, or system analysis within the commercial insurance industry.

Insurance Knowledge: Strong understanding of commercial insurance products, including general liability, property, financial lines and other property & casualty lines, and how forms, rules, and rating plans function.
Requirements Writing: Demonstrated ability to author clear, detailed business requirements that can be handed off to Technology teams for coding and implementation.
Systems Familiarity: Familiarity with commercial insurance policy administration platforms from a business requirements perspective.
Regulatory Acumen: Working knowledge of bureau circulars, state filing/regulatory requirements, and how regulatory change translates into product requirement updates.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze policy forms and rules and translate them into precise, unambiguous requirements for a technical audience.
Communication & Teamwork: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across business and technical audiences.
Problem Solving: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering effective, compliant solutions and attention to detail.
Education: Associate's/Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications
In-depth knowledge of commercial and financial lines of business.
Experience authoring requirements for large-scale, enterprise-level insurance system implementations or migrations.
Experience handing off business requirements to internal Technology and third-party implementation vendors.
In-depth knowledge of the state filing processes.

SALARY: The estimated salary range for this position is $100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year. This is a good-faith assessment of the salary range for this position only. In determining the actual salary within this range, MSIG USA will consider a candidate's relevant experience, location, and other job-related factors.
Additional Benefits:

  • Healthcare and Retirement Benefits
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with a generous employer match and profit-sharing contribution
  • Wellness incentive program
  • Life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance
  • Flexible spending programs
  • Short-term and long-term disability plans
