Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer for System Verification and Validation efforts in support of our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. The ideal candidate will be someone who can independently develop system verification strategy, demonstrate the behaviors to effectively communicate, coordinate, collaborate, and work in a visible and proactive manner across organizational boundaries to deliver positive results. This role is fit for someone who can be a highly engaging, team-oriented, problem solving, and self-starting individual able to respond rapidly to a dynamic programmatic environment.
As a Principal Systems Engineer for System Verification and Validation, your responsibilities span engineering technical authority and customer relationship management including:
Engineering Technical Authority
  • Develop a Verification strategy and approach for a new weapon system
  • Lead and/or engage with Verification Integrated Product Teams (IPT) / Working Groups / Communities of Practice
  • Review requirements and ensure clarity and verifiability
  • Develop a requirement verification traceability matrix
  • Execute on System Verification technical work products
  • Ensure engineering outcomes are consistent with established engineering principles and practices and that customer and company technical, system, performance, and quality requirements are met
  • Develop and present technical documentation, data, presentations, and white paper submissions to chief engineers for approval and then to the customers.

Customer Relationship Management
  • Establish and maintain exceptional relationships with SES, GS-15, and GS-14 level US Navy customers/clients to solve technical problems and implement solutions of extremely high complexity.
  • Support the customer in the execution of the Systems Engineering Verification process including Systems Engineering Technical Reviews.
  • Works closely with the customer to translate objectives into actionable plans and measurable deliverables.


Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Education and years of related/relevant work experience required: Bachelor of Science degree in Systems, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent education and years of related/relevant work experience.
Additional skills/experience required:
  • Six years' experience supporting systems engineering on large DoD programs
  • Experience with major weapon system development product lifecycle and technologies
  • Experience with integration of models, software, and / or hardware
  • Experience working systems engineering projects involving multiple systems engineering teams
  • Experience with presenting project status to management and/or the client
  • Experience in organizing and hosting meetings involving multiple stakeholders
  • Willing/able to travel approximately 10% of the time
  • Must possess strong organizational, time management, and project management skills
  • Proficient with PC and MS Office Suite


Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • MS Degree in Systems Engineering or related field and 10 years' experience supporting systems engineering on large DoD programs
  • ASEP or CSEP certification
  • Experience with the Navy SSP or TRIDENT programs
  • Demonstrated experience in a Systems Engineering field preferably supporting Verification related efforts
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and influence multi-disciplinary teams in complex systems engineering across the product development lifecycle
  • Experience with technical presentations and customer-facing activities at the leadership level
  • Demonstrated success partnering with customers to understand critical challenges, shape customer requirements, develop innovative solutions, and manage execution of solutions through implementation
  • Experience with various engineering tools / languages including PTC Windchill, IBM DOORS, 2D/3D CAD, SysML, Cameo, and/or MATLAB Simulink

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $118095 - $200762
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
