Job description

JAS is an international, non-asset-based supply chain services and solutions company. Our services include air and ocean freight forwarding, contract logistics, customs brokerage, distribution, inbound logistics, truckload brokerage and other supply chain management services, including consulting, the coordination of purchase orders and customized management services.
The Global Systems Manager is responsible for the delivery, optimization, and governance of the organization's data center systems, including backups, patching, and monitoring.
This role leads to the evolution of the server and computing environment to the cloud while maintaining appropriate enterprise controls.
The role combines technical and managerial responsibilities, including leading technical projects, managing a team, and supporting global services and platforms.
HYBRID POSITION - MUST BE LOCAL TO ATLANTA, GA
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage daily activities and resources

  • Set team vision and align priorities with senior infrastructure management

  • Work with business sponsors to identify any technological needs and identify potential solutions for them

  • Maintain on-call rotation and ensure that team members are responsive as needed after hours

  • Document standard processes and procedures

  • Work with senior leadership to set quarterly goals and track progress against plans.

  • Create and maintain performance metrics used to measure and improve performance

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Data Center Management
  • Own day-to-day operations and strategic improvement of enterprise Data Center environments, ensuring reliability, scalability, security, and performance.

  • Manage and monitor the VMware environment.

  • Manage the Rubrik backup solution to ensure onsite and offsite backups of critical data with regular restore testing.

  • Ensure monthly patching through BatchPatch and Azure Arc, and maintain a scheduled monthly maintenance window.

  • Manage and configure SolarWinds and/or PRTG monitoring solutions to ensure high availability of critical servers and services; monitor all critical server and storage components.

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for Data Center and infrastructure platform incidents, driving root cause analysis and preventive improvements.

Disaster Recovery
  • Define and manage the DR strategy for the core Data Center components along with disaster recovery specific plans for the primary SQL databases.

  • Track all yearly DR exercise tests and ensure they are completed with proper evidence gathered.

  • Partner with application teams, infrastructure teams, and architecture teams to ensure all critical applications complete their required yearly DR exercises and track the progress.

  • Ensure all DR documentation is up to date.

Platform Management
  • Lead on-premises server platform architecture, including server patching through BatchPatch (to be retired) and Azure Arc monitoring and patching.

  • Enforce governance and policy standards, including RBAC, Policy, naming conventions, and security baselines.

  • Partner with application teams, infrastructure teams, and architecture teams to enable cloud migrations, refactoring, and modernization initiatives from traditional on-premises services.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on:

  • Reducing incidents

  • Improving mean time to resolution (MTTR)

  • Increasing automation coverage

  • Manage the SQL team and ensure 24x7 coverage from the vendor with documented processes.

  • Manage the Device 42 engineer to configure the application to support asset discovery and management

  • Ensure all services and documentation are up to date.

Cloud and Identity
  • Engage with the Cloud team in automation-first cloud operations, reducing manual effort and increasing deployment consistency.

  • Understand self-service resource provisioning for application teams through approved templates and pipelines.

  • Review Cloud Automation documentation, runbooks, and operational standards.

  • Understand proactive monitoring, alerting, and health dashboards using Azure-native tools.

  • Engage with the Identity team to become proficient in the usage of privileged roles across the environment.

  • Experience supporting Microsoft Teams Phone (Teams Voice).

People & Vendor Management
  • Lead engineers where required.

  • Define priorities, manage capacity, and ensure predictable delivery.

  • Manage vendor relationships, licensing, and renewals.

  • Collaborate closely with cybersecurity, enterprise architecture, and application teams.

  • 2+ years in a people management or technical leadership role.

  • Strong expertise in data center platforms and management.

  • Proven experience implementing best practices.

  • Strong automation skills (PowerShell required).

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Microsoft MCSE

  • Experience working with multiple Data Center management systems

  • Exposure to Azure or AWS or GCP

  • Experience supporting platforms in M&A scenarios.

  • Exposure to industry standard systems engineering products.
