Job Description
1. Platform/Application Engineering (35%)
o Provide engineering ownership of a subset of IT platforms and applications.
o Create and maintain engineering system documentation and diagrams.
o Research methods to improve system uptime and stability through proactive monitoring and capacity management solutions.
o Research and create procedures to maintain a secure environment.
o Research and recommend innovative, automated, programmatic approaches to increase speed of delivery/implementation.
o Research and document methods to recover from software or hardware failures, test procedures regularly with system administration team.
o Develop and retain relationships with system administrators and technology vendors.
o Set and maintain system standards.
o Provide level three support and train system administration team to provide level two support.
o Periodic work outside of normal business hours to execute late night changes during maintenance windows as well as provide escalated support.
2. Platform/Application Project Support (40%)
o Lead the planning and execution of system upgrades, migrations, and research/proof of concept projects.
o Maintain open and consistent communications with project managers.
3. Strategy and Research (25%)
o Own the development of technology vision and strategy roadmaps for platforms and applications.
o Research and recommend emerging technologies.
o Draft proposals for upgrades of existing and implementation of new technologies.
Skill Set
1. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering or related field 2. 5+ years related work experience 3. Advanced knowledge of one or more of the following: • Microsoft server operating systems and applications • Linux and other open source products • Enterprise class server and storage hardware 4. General hours will be 8:00am - 5:00pm. This schedule will adjust when working required evening hours which could be anywhere between 1 to 2 times per week 5. Strong written and verbal communication skills Additional Preferred Skills: 1. Experience with Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, BizTalk, Active Directory, SharePoint and IIS 2. Experience with VMware vSphere or other server virtualization products
