Job description

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) has an immediate opening for an Associate Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) Engineer. The primary function of this position is to help manage the operation and administration of the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) as related to the Distribution Operations section. This position will assist with developing, maintaining and implementing ADMS processes and procedures for Distribution Operations. The candidate will help provide supervision of the distribution system in compliance with SMECO operational procedures while ensuring the distribution system performs as designed and changes/updates are incorporated into the Outage Management System (OMS) configuration, and the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Help coordinate and participate in all activities involving data integrity, modeling, display, and integration of the SCADA system for Distribution Operations. This position assists with managing and maintaining the Cooperative's enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS) as related to the Distribution Operations section and the Advanced Applications of ADMS. Lastly, this position will assist in the development and maintenance of daily operations logs, major outage reports, and monthly reliability indices (CAIDI, CAIFI, MAIFI, SAIDI, SAIFI, etc.) and performs the duties of an Associate Distribution System Operator as needed.
This position requires a candidate who has strong analytical and technological skills, problem solving ability, organization and prioritization skills, sound communication skills, ability to apply complex mathematical concepts.
This position requires a Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET accredited engineering college or university in an electric engineering discipline is required, with specialized training in electric utility operation and maintenance preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training certification is desired.
No direct experience required. However, basic knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), electric utility system protection, and operations practices, along with a demonstrated working knowledge of electric utility related software applications is preferred. Must be able to perform all required duties of an Associate Distribution System Operator within a reasonable period of time not to exceed 2 years. Emphasis in a Control Center environment, OMS/ADMS/SCADA and supervisory experience is preferred.
The candidate must obtain and demonstrate the knowledge level needed for advancement to a Senior Associate Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) Engineer, performing all required duties. Advancement requires a minimum of two years of experience and is expected to occur promptly upon meeting the required competencies.
The starting salary range for this position is $72,000 - $93,300. SMECO offers an excellent benefits program including a 401(k) 6% dollar for dollar match and an additional 3% non-elective company contribution.
